Yer Adelaide was my favourite place in Oz, but it is very hot in the summer. Not sure how much I will enjoy the horticulture course in full heat. I remember walking to the local shop and nearly dying.

We are beginning to get really excited now as the house sale looks like it is finally happening. Just looking at rentals at the moment. And tents for before we find a rental.
I shouldn't worry it really seems to depend on how thorough the doc is on the day! and yes majorly expensive business we have four kids and total med and xray cost with bloods came to £950.

(picks self up off floor)

we are really nervous that we aren't going to be able to complete in time for the start of the course as it means coming out pennyless. We are going to go for a cabin on a caravan park for the first couple of weeks while we are setting up a rental and then hopefully it'll be fun for the kids as well.

Hello all fellow students,

well we have arrived in Oz and it has been a mad 2 weeks, managed to rent a house in Sippy downs, but dont move in until the 14th dec, the rental market is crazy, they have open days for the house and you all just go along at the same time, some houses had 20 -30 people there.
Have your application form filled out in advance!
If any of you are attending the Tafe at nambour to do bricklaying in february beware as they told me it is now starting around the 24th of jan. and that is all they could tell me at the moment.
We have no internet access yet just a cafe so i cant respond that much.
Oz is lovely and we are really enjoying ourselves.
Sean.

Well we had our medicals today in Manchester. They wern't too bad, apart from the price.
Other half MAY have to be refered because of his BMI being a bit high, but hopefully not, we should know Wednesday.

Fingers crossed it all moves quickly now.

glad its all moving now pumpkin, did you have to have bloods in the end? your hubbys bmi would have to be really high for it to be referred, did you both score 'a' or did he score a 'b'? julie

The BMI is 30 or over the doctor said, but the BMI should not be taken into account because its a student visa.

We didn't have to have the blood tests in the end. He didn't even ask about tattoos etc, just said student visa, not in hospital etc, no bloods.
He didn't tell us if we were A or B, just said that the computor sometimes refers people automatically if their BMI is at a certain level (which he sais he didn't know). Not sure what his was, just in the 30's.

We will see on Wednesday.

ifyour BMI is 30 or over you will need to go for a specialised report but this is waved if you are going on a student visa and not PR, just like you dont need blood tests unless you are a doc or nurse.

according to our doc anyway.

Hopefully your Dr is right and mine has just got confused. I can't see why they would be so bothered for a tempory visa where we have to pay for health insurance for the whole time anyway.

I don't know why though, I just have had a real bad feeling of forboading all day. Our solicitor has told us there is no way we will complete before xmas as it turns out our buyer doesn't have a firm offer of a mortgage yet, but his mortgage advisor is saying we will exchange on the 14th still as we are just waiting for one form. Ahhhhhhh!!!! If we don't exchange before xmas we can't go!!

Was it just your hubbies medicals which were refered to Australia? Ours this morning both say refered to Australia. My BMI certainly isn't high, so now I am panicking about what my x-ray may have shown.
How long did it take them from the time they were refered, and does it just say finalised when they approve them?
I am getting more and more panicky. Our house sale is looking like it might not exchange before Christmas, so we may not have time to hand in our notice and get there in time for the course. Even if it does exchange in time we may end up giving in our notice at work and then failing the medicals!!

oh god what a nightmare at least we knew that lees was getting referred, ours were all marked as finalised straight away but hubbys was marked as referred on the 24th nov and was finalised on the 6th, so that was 12 days, apparently they use snail mail to send the referred meds to australia which can take up to 10 days, cos I emailed the helpdesk and asked how long we could expect it to take. They apparently review it and see if they are concerned about you if they are they contact you directly for extra info. If you have some idea of what you were being referred for it would help, didn't your doc say anything that raised concern? cos we knew so sent the helpdesk lots of extra info about when he was having his op and that. Don't know if it helped but it made us feel like we were doing something towards it.

I know how you feel about selling the house in time and about getting there in time we just want that visa granted so we can go ahead with the house sale and clear out our stuff etc ready, the waiting is just the worst thing.

pumpkin maybe it was the smear history you were talking about before that has gotten you referred, I should try not to stress too much if it was your x-ray they would have said something on the day surely. my husband was referred simply for a cyst that was scheduled to be removed. julie

He did say hubbie may get referred because of his BMI but he said I was fine. My xray did look fine. I did have lazer treatment after dodgy smear tests, but that was over 10 years ago, they didn't even need the notes from that at the first Drs appointment. I may e-mail the help desk as I don't want to hand in our notice if we could fail.

Maybe I should ask my Dr for details of that now so I can send it if they need it. Thanks
