I never understand this.

Patently untrue emails do the rounds and are quoted as fact, but when challenged, "It was all a joke".

Things that contain truths should always be taken seriously, shouldn't they?

I've yet to find a truth in it. The whole scenario breaks on the initial premise. Generally the idea behind it is a more populist variation on the widely discredited trickle-down theory. And the immigrant addition at the end is bordering on the unacceptable IMO.

Me too but there are always going to be disaffected people who seeing anyone with more that they have will be envious and take what they do not have. Having had my home violated by thieves for the second time earlier in the year I really do not feel sympathetic towards the rioters and looters.

Whoever said it was fact? You and fatbrit are the ones who are making it something other than a joke, most people seem to recognize it for what it is.

I have seen that email several times and have always viewed it as a satirical ode written by someone who is absolutely fed up with the way things are.

Fatbit - do you live and work in the UK? Or are you a full time expat?

I can understand people feeling hacked off. I work in the UK for most of the year, and I am in a job where I face violence to the point of now having a permanent injury.
I get fed up at times when I am contantly subjected to stealth taxes, or paying out more and more (like 3% more of my total wage being taken for pension which was a contract broken by the last government), and then watching more and more handouts become available. One example - alcoholics get an extra £45 per week ! Why? Heck knows!
Almost daily I go to these areas where there is supposed poverty and disparity in wealth and I am often shocked by the amount of ridiculously expensive gadgets some of these people have. This is not all of the people by any means, but certainly a significant number. Many of them have a heck of a lot more than I do, and a better car too. Many of them also take much more luxurious holidays than i can ever afford, and they are on state benefits. I don't begrudge anyone having things, but when I see that they have more than me, I struggle to see what there is to complain about.

In many cases the disparity is not that great at all - maybe it has come from crime, I don't know, but I know what I have personally seen many many many times.

This is not a cosy little club, you are welcome to express your views but you also have to accept that anyone else is also entitled to their view and my view was that you were turning a joke into something serious.

Did you come here to join in the discussion on 'UK RIOTS' Sally - or just for the purpose of getting personal and critical?
If you don't like it on here, there are lots of other threads on lots o other forums which may be more to your taste.

The topic is 'UK RIOTS' - try making a constructive comment on the topic instead of picking on people.
