The only answer i can see coming out of this debate is that its not healthy to sweep problems under the carpet or it will happen again and again. Its not just about pouring money in to the inner cities or pouring people into our out-dated unhealthy jails, which in reality are just crime colleges.Banging people up never solved anything just like hanging never deterred murderers or murder. For too long society has turned its collective back on the social problems that we are experiencing in the UK.If any thing the riots have opened societies eyes to the fact that we have collectively produced uneducated feral children, teens and young men who have no investment at all in getting on in life.Call them nihilistic or savage illiterate yobs or criminal low lifes, they have to be confronted and strangely enough its happening now.Look at what happened in Clapham and Peckham.Thousands came out to clear up the damaged streets and at the same time heckled Boris Johnson and The Home Secretary too as representatives of a political system that was found wanting in the face of civil disorders.Do you know what they call single mothers here in London.Crime Factories. Its that sort of awareness thats going to change things. The rioters used Blackberries to communicate with each other. Society is now using the internet to communicate with the government to tell them whats wrong instead of the old way of them telling us whats wrong. Its not going to happen over night but it is happening slowly.Politicians of the old school are in for a hard time if they think that just chuck them in jail and that will shut them up and i can go on claiming my expenses. Hillsborough is a good example of that. For years people knew that the police lost control and the report was suppressed by Thatcher. With the new system of E-petitions to Parliament over 100,000 e-signatures were in place in just over a week. Now there has to be a Parliamentary debate as to why the report was suppressed.

For gawd's sake make an effort with that thing between your ears! Let's take the initial premise:
There are about 10 million people over 50 in the work force.
Pay them £1 million each severance for early retirement
and see whether this is feasible. 10E6 x 1E6 = 1E13
or in easy-to-say terms, 10 trillion GBP.
Now -- because I can't be bothered to totally spoon feed folks -- go and find the GDP of the UK and tell me whether you now think the first premise is actually feasible.

I've already stated what I would propose to cure the fundamental issue -- excessive disparity in wealth. Look back and you'll find it with an ice cream flavour.

This post, as with several other posts of yours is rude and offensive, and unnecessarily so.
Everyone posting on this thread responds to you in a polite manor, even when disagreeing with your views, and on occasions when your posts appear to resemble 'put downs' of other posters.
As for your comment of spoon feeding, I point out to you that all I have seen from you are left wing generalised know it all comments about how things should change, without any suggestions on the practical application and achievement of those idealisms.
Everyone is welcome on this forum, including you, and everyone has the right to post their views, even if they are not in agrement with you, but if you cannot behave with the respect and decorum that we on the Goa forum expect, then please return to the TIO where it appears that rudeness is the norm. It is not welcome here, so I would really appreciate it if you would tone it down, even if you don't like other peoples' posts and views. There are other ways to get your post accross and you will find that it would be better received when put into polite and constructive words.
Thank you
