Hi Lewys, Remy & All,

Yes great suggestion but.. we can't even after all this time get help or straight answers from the British government( e.g " We cannot interfere in another countries policies" Hmm Afghanistan ?)
can you imagine getting a straight answer from a Goan official

Anyone up for the challenge ?

Well, the petition will be sent shortly ( last day tomorrow) and we should insist the government pull their fingers and support us in anyway possible, including previous suggestion.

Diplomacy is called for - We are not asking them to send in tanks, guns!

Talking Re: GOA - Buyer Beware!

I just could not believe it ,all this stuff about RBI permission ,CGT etc its all rubbish, sell it to whowever wants to buy it,accept money, how and where you want it,thats it,no investigations ,no nothing. Can be sold being on that investigation list too,but bit more difficult
Goa is the place thats probably the cheapest place to live, but it sure is the nastiest, just an stinking rubbish dump, proves a point that the cheapest place is not always the best, and the damned people are getting much ,much worse.
Still sinking in that Im free, pure heaven free of the dump. Hope the petition does something, but in the back of everyones mind lurks a doubt that it will be any good, these monkeys are digging their heels in.

From Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Ref. MillibandD.

Thank you for your letter of the 11th June to the Foreign Secretary on behalf of your constituents, about property purchased in Goa.

I am replying as Minister of Asia.

I regret the distress caused to your constituents, however, as you will appreciate buying a property overseas, in India or elsewhere, will necessarily attract risks. Ultimately only the purchaser can judge whether these are worth taking. Where problems occure our strong advice is for British Nationals to get specialist advice from a reputable local lawyer and, subject to that advice, to pursue their case through the Indian Courts.

The High Commission does not have the locus, nor the specialist experties, to become involved in individual civil or legal disputes. We do, however, use our travel advice actively to warn British nationals of the protential problems they could face when buying property in India. Recently we revised our concern over the problems encounted by British owners of property in Goa with the Indian Authorities at both Union and State government level. Our
High Commissioner has raised our concerns with the Chief Minister for Goa, as has Deputy High Commissioner for Western India. The Deputy High Commissioner has also raised the matter at a senior level with the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi.

We have made clear that there should be no question of confiscation of property acquired legally by British Nationals. We have also asked the Goan Government to take firm action against those who are selling property illegally to foreigners. We will continue to pursue this with the appropriate Indian
Authories.

signed. The Rt. Hon Lord Mallock-Brown
Minister of State.

Yes, agree when I read if. BUT a little different from other replies members have had. Would love to know where to find THE ADVOCATE. who knows what he is on about, and why our Government does not take to task UK Agents.

Unfortunately, it was announced last week that Lord Malloch Brown is to retire this summer (i.e. about now, July).

He is due our thanks since he at least tabled a question in HM Parliament drawing attention on our behalf to the matter of threatened property confiscation in Goa.
