So many, (too many) junior advocates hanging round the courts 'begging' for work, they will do anything to make a living. |

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
A friend had a property dispute with a local. His lawyer told him 30,000 would do the trick. He refused. He lost the case, and his home. ' Not in higher courts' Two months ago, a retired SC judge alleged two former SC judges were tainted. Considering 160+ MP's have either been convicted, or are awaiting trial on charges of murder, rape and kidnap, it's reasonable to assume the judiciary are not squeaky clean.
On the subject of VVIP cells, my OH tells me they are equipped with tv, phone, toilet, shower and a bed. They do not exist in UK nicks, although VIP's do get better treatment than the peasantry. The good lady CM referred to, was sentenced to 3 years in 1990. In 1991 she was CM!! Prasad got 5 years earlier this year. He's out and about and his wifey has taken over the reins. With over 4 million cases outstanding in all courts, Modi has a mammoth task ahead.I hope he is up to it. He'll need help from all parties which I don't think will be forthcoming. He has almost dictatorial power. Let's hope he uses them wisely. Davie. |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
From press reports it seems that Goans have finally woken up to the fact that domestic tourism in Goa is bad for business, especially when it arrives by the coach load. We experienced this in Kolkotta earlier this year. Went for an evening walk on The Maiden, something i have been doing for over 25 years when ever I'm there.Near the Kingfisher football ground is a small wood which had been landscaped, probably by the club, with walkways and flowers planted. There is access to the club from the main road.Came next day and there were 3 coaches parked on the road.People cooking and washing and generally sitting under the trees for shade.I guessed they were heading for Kali Ghat at some point.Walked into the small wood to take a short cut and it had been used as an open air toilet and garbage dump.It was obvious who had dumped there. At one time in Goa it was illegal to sleep on the beach, now you can do anything you want it seems.Modi has on hell of a job in front of him if hes going to motivate Indians to clean up after them because from my own observations talking to them will not solve anything and the beaches of Goa are in a mess. The water is highly polluted, Baga Creek is now an open sewer and please do not try and take a short cut across the mouth because its full of broken bottles courtesy of drunken of drunken Russian and Indian tourists.....

Are you suggesting turning Goa into a British only theme park? Domestic tourists have a right to visit where they want in their own country don't they? Yes unless strict laws are made and enforced, people will drop garbage, sleep on beaches etc. "Modi" ---"if---motivate Indians", actually Modi is Indian!!!! "Talking to them won't solve anything",--- how many have you talked to? I hear exactly the same complaints that you have made, and I only talk to Indian people* when I am in India!!!! The answer strict laws and 'EDUCATION', to dispel the concept among some/(many) unfortunately, that personal cleanliness is supreme, that surroundings do not matter. It is classless and ageless, ranging from those who risk their lives throwing rubbish out of moving train doors, to those who just drop stuff on floors of houses, thinking the servants will brush it up. Yes certainly Modi has a job. (A lot of jobs!!!) (* Not deliberately, they are the only ones I meet) |

Modi has been in power only 3 months already positive changes being made, certainly it will take 5-10 years for any overall change. |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Bipat stop being so pedantic and literal.Of course Modi is Indian I'm not stupid and stop being so defensive especially on a subject thats indefensible and makes you look stupid. Domestic Tourism in Goa overwhelms what ever services are provided by the state and the environment suffers. That is is an undeniable truth and it doesn't matter that they have every right to be there what matters is that the environment suffers and any benefits they bring are outweighed by what they leave behind which is garbage and human waste. You live on the coast i think so what would you think if 20 coaches suddenly pulled into town full of tourist who all went straight to the beach, defecated threw bottles into the sea and generally made a mess of the place and then went home leaving it all behind for you to clean up ? You always get defensive around Indians and if you will stop being so selective you will notice i also said Russians but that slipped your mind i think.DTs are bad for business in India whether its in Goa or West Bengal because what ever benefits they bring are outweighed by what they leave behind.

I was merely pointing out, if ---- you read the post. That many Indian people make the same complaints about garbage and others habits etc as you do. They are not ALL THE SAME. What is your answer to too many tourists? Ban local people?? This is not a great problem in South Goa, the multiple bars etc in the north which benefit foreign tourists, also encourage Indian riff raff people. (I am generalising here). Many Indian people I know would not think of going to North Goa. Actually a similar problem to the one you describe did happen in our home town!! I can't remember the details, particular jobs were advertised, interviews to be held there. I think army jobs. Hundreds turned up and no facilities at all arranged for them. The ususal-- we thought you/they were doing it!!! The beach was then used for sleeping and toilets. The mess was appalling in front of the museum where children usually play. It was cleared within hours next day.The council in shame at not organising arrangements. As for tourists the only ones we get are domestic!! PS (As in other posters question, where are they all? J5 is needed for a good argument!!!!!) |

I do admire your optimism however Of course BJP will not be totally innocent but as a party it had nothing like the wealth of Congress. Doesn't the fact that the corrupt wealthy party has been overthrown demonstrate democracy in action?? UK politics seems to be in a total mess!!! Just listening to Nick Clegg's speech, at the LibDem conference. I think many BE members could have written a better speech for him:lol: |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Its a long road but jailing The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and then refusing her bail is a step in the right direction. As for democracy here in the UK, at least India has a written constitution, we do not and have to put up with the dictates of parliament and the snores of The House of Lords......tomorrow we will get a UKIP member too. I was in Clacton on Sunday for the day.Nice beach but the place itself is slowly dying and i cannot understand why they would want to elect a UKIP MP.There are no immigration problems there. There are a couple of hostel type hotels but the place is where Tories retire to and die.Its only got 3 pubs on the front and one of those is on the pier !

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
A written constitution would be known as a Bill of Rights, your rights guaranteed in law.In the UK we have the dictatorship of Parliament. If parliament decided that from tomorrow all gays and any one convicted of a sexual offense should be castrated then in theory it would happen.
