In todays ToI,

BRITISH NATIONALITY ALLOWED if ...............

.................under a new rule introduced by the present Conservative party and Liberal Democrat coalition government, which automatically permits this if a person deposits 10 million pounds in the UK.

Tell me it's not true !! Is this what a once proud nation has come to ?

What a filthy set of bastards rule our country. I'm ashamed.

I thought it was settlement after a number of years and then citizenship after a further number of years if you bring the money and if you stay.
When did this change?

Excuse me but if you had money full stop, no one in governments past and present, cared whether you were accused of genocide mass murder fraud or even being a participant in Christs Crucifixion come to that.....it was the money that spoke.England has always been the whore of the world, legs open for anyone to enter if they had the price.Plus the fact if you couldn't manage to get on the airplane quick enough, we were always very obliging about looking after your ill gotten gains until you did.Sorry for being so cynical but unfortunately its bloody true. The Conservatives though are more guilty than the Evangelical Labourites we enjoy today under Milliband and his happy clappy followers..........:amen:

You are right that anyone seems to be able to deposit their money in UK and come there but the original question was about acquiring British citizenship/nationality. My understanding is that all have to go through the time and residence reqirements.
Has this changed as OP was suggesting?

Bottom of col. 1.

Between the thieving bastards and their expenses scam, now we have this crap.A ****ing banana republic we've turned into, thanks to the so called ruling classes. We need a revolution to weed these bastards out. Between them and their friends in The City, they're taking the piss out of ordinary people.
They bailed out the fat cat bankers, what of people who lost their homes ?

Re: In To-day's Newspapers

dave, all that's changed is the amount - it used to be one million (afaik still is if you use it to open a business); that gets you residence permit; after that anyone with iirc 5 years residence can apply for citizenship.
