According to the Herald, "home of illiterate journalism", the Sunburn Festival is expecting 10 lakh visitors...............thats a million!
Hope its just their usual inaccurate old b@ll@cks or Candolinium is going to be shoulder to shoulder, rather than just noisy and crowded for the next few days! . |

How high are they going to make this tax ....
It was in Heraldo Business on Dec. 26 but I cant find a link. This is just more pre-election dross squeezed out just before the Code of Conduct kicks in. This is really just Special Status in a new guise; if it tries to discriminate between Goans and 'other' Indians it will fall foul of the Constitution unless they can get a Constitutional amendment (the present centre gov't struggles to find a simple majority for major bills never mind 2/3rds to keep Kamat sweet!). The vast majority of property that is unoccupied (excepting Christmas, New Year, family feasts) is owned by people born in Goa or their descendants (who is a Goan?), there is no way they'll apply this tax to them. As to pushing up prices, as I've said in other threads, it's the Welsh Cottage ("Come home to a Real Fire") syndrome again - prices are soaring everywhere, most of the people who complain that they now can't afford to buy a house never could. AndyD 8-)# P.S. The activist reported in Heraldo suggested that an Aadhaar card (presumably with a Goan address) might be accepted; these are specifically targeted at poor people and migrants. According to the Aadhaar website they should be available to anyone resident in India - even if here on a visa (????) |

Jeremy Clarkson accused of racism AGAIN after toilet jibes during Top Gear Christmas special in India At one point, the controversial presenter ridiculed the unhygienic conditions and lack of sanitation among the poor by driving around slums in a Jaguar fitted with a toilet |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
If you want politically correct then I'm afraid you will be wasting your with Jeremy Clarkson, he tells it as he sees it but with tongue very firmly in cheek, he revels in being controversial and probably believes it benefits his ratings

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Dysentery is common in India, Indians know it, Europeans know it, and Jeremy Clarkson knows it.
I fail to see the racism in this. If anything, it's Toilet Humour. I like that, and I freely admit to it, LOL. Is it racism to carry emergency Malaria medicine in your luggage, too, then? Or is it the funny context that's forbidden? I loved the episode and I still don't think I'm a racist... In the Germany episode of "Jeremy Clarkson Meets the Neighbours" there were few if any stereotypes about the Germans left out. Did I feel offended? Not at all. Did I find it racist? Hell, no. Not even if Germans had a different skin tone; no, I don't think I would. Did I find it hilariously funny? Hell, yeah!!! Racism is a global problem, and denial is the most subtle and evil form of it, for sure. But the "Racism" card is played waaaaaay too often nowadays, and that's not helping, in my humble opinion... People should at least sometimes try to take a step back, watch from a distance, and laugh about themselves. |

I enjoyed it too and found it funny. How can humour about toilet facilities be racist. In the Express today there is an article about Lincolnshire County council having decided that the green man on pedestrian crossings is sexist. They have put up replacement signs that say 'only cross with the green figure'. how ridiculous can you get, it's such a waste of public money especially when the figure is so obviously a male. Are they now going to replace all the green men as well and what with, green hemaphrodites. It is time these councils stopped wasting public money on such things and used it for council services that they are cutting back on such as day centres for the elderly.
