Do the MPs, who come from non British origins, label themselves with their country of origin ? Perhaps I've been away too long to understand the so called multi cultured UK.
I could guarantee a large majority of the people who elect the nine Indian/British MPs are also of Indian extraction. Forget about policies, they're one of us, vote for them. Being half American, for whom should I vote ? W. |

Being half American you are also of half foreign extraction so by your reckoning you should only get half a vote! :thumbsup::thumbsup:
My reckoning is you're either one or the other. Allegiance can only be given to one. W. |

On the front page of the "50th anniversary of Liberation" supplement of the Tims today is a very appropriate cartoon done by Subodh Kerkar.
Two women walking along the beach..1 English and 1 Portugese....... The caption: Just 150... We stayed here for 500 years at a stretch and now can`t get a six months visa!! |

I disagree, you can have loyalty to more than one country. OH more British in his ways than I am!! but still an 'Indian' and loyal to his roots.

Does your OH have British citizenship? if so he is British not Indian. You can love more than one country, I love India, but that is not the same as having allegiance to both. Which way would he jump if there was a war between the UK and India.
I think if you were born in a country, live there until your late 20's, and all your relatives live there, it will be a different emotion to those visiting as expats. His criticism of India would make the rants on this forum seem quite mild and he has certainly no allegiance to the present Indian Gov. His heart is mainly where his children are but also where his parents lived and his relatives are living now; nothing could change this. This is not the same as allegiance to a 'state'. War is very unlikely in our lifetime, but in last war many had such split loyalty, if they were of German origin it is very complex. |

How very sad in this day and age this happens.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-attempts.html Muslim woman's father found out about the child, he could unleash a vengeful bloodbath by killing the baby and his whole family, three senior judges agreed. |

From Mid-Day, Bombay;
http://www.mid-day.com/news/2011/dec...s-and-Feni.htm Particularly liked One of the tourists whipped out a gun and fired into the air, while his friends stripped naked and danced on the street, before police arrived on the scene. and and a number of other mobs of young Indian men were clearly not quite sure what to make of all the scantily clad tourists or the young Indian couples making out on the beach, but they took lots of photos so they could decide later." . |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
I think it must be something to do with youth and holidaying. whether its Indian youth holidaying in Goa, Britisn youth holidaying in Magaluf or Spanish youth holidaying in Ibiza; it seems the moment they arive there standards of behaviour change and not for the better.

Wow, just listened to the Queen's Speech..........
she made it bl@@dy clear that as far as she is concerned, Great Britain (not the diss- United Kingdom) is a Christian country! Good for her, shame our wimpy, vacillating politicians don't do the same:frown: Happy Christmas Your Majesty, and hope the old boy is better soon:thumbsup: |
