You really shouldn't take anything seriously that is published by outlook, Navhind times, or the Goan Herald. They just make up stories based on things they hear at cheap bars in town, on notes they take while sloshed.

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Just go inland to the market towns, walk up any alley, and you'll easily find them by the reek of low grade feni emanating through the doorway.

It is a very good article, I doubt if many of the sexual attacks that take place are reported to the police because of their attitude. I was shocked at the figure of 12 million abortions of female fetuses in the last three decades.
The problem is that society is becoming even more polarised, with the less than educated, not accepting the concept of equality for women, and expecting them to have only the role of modest housewife, and having no respect for women who step out of this line, so ordinary emancipated girls and working women are suffering these attacks and harassment. I am not sure about comparing with Saudi Arabia , where no woman is allowed to drive and adultery leads to public stoning to death. One point; as we have discussed this before the abortion rate even for females is nothing like the as shocking as the abortion rate in the UK for females and males. Where there is no excuse. (I know you have said that it irritates you if I mention UK, but on this particular subject I don't think we can condemn another country when we have worse figures by far. Even if we don't more often choose girls to be aborted, for whatever reason, the result for the girl foetus is the same). When comparing statistics it has to be remembered that the Indian population is 1 Billion. |
