In terms of India then and now, this is a correct statement.Your immediate (informed and educated ) family, are in Indian terms, a tiny and completely insignificant minority. This is how current Injun governments maintain control. Therefore in terms of this discussion, totally irrelevant One family as you say 'tiny' but yes informed and with extended family living in several states; therefore I respectfully suggest could know more about the 'vast majority' of their own country than yourself and they have been educating me for decades. If you are discussing intricate political details and mode of government obviously then and now vast majority knew and now know very little. The original post was about the affects of this government and to say that the 'vast majority' of Indians 'knew nothing' about the Raj is I would suggest not correct. |

So as the whole issue is a matter of opinion and perception, I fear we must differ......

No J5 it is a case of uninformed opinion versus actual knowledge. To put it in very simple terms evey district had a collector' what do you think the local population thought this 'white person' was doing there taking taxes? He hadn't come down from the sky!! Yes most were illiterate (not the collectors) but they could still talk to each other there was communication.
Apologies B The British officials would travel to all parts of their area. There were forestry officers who travelled widely and many others also. |

Uproar in Indian Parliament over midnight arrest of Baba Ramdev. "Indian Government has lost its mental balance" (Opposition).
Anti-corruption move doesn't seem to be going too well!! |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers

Apparently Lily Allen is to be wed, in Cranham (Glos), however paper described it as NE of London.........so that must be to the right then of Swindon as this too was also described as being North England.....seems Geography isn't the strong subject at the local Herald  |

Bipat, the good thing about this is the participation in the anti corruption movement of more and more people who are fed up of corruption and want to see some major changes .
Despite this and other problems, " India among preferred FDI destinations " Are they moving towards an 'emergency' situation? |
Are they moving towards an 'emergency' situation?
They have been in one since 1948, without a break. If anything triggers WW3 it will be these idiots with their matching corrupt imbeciles slightly north west falling out over a suitably minor issue. You can look it up. Are we supposed to take everything that you post without comment? Even on the few occasions that it is absolute rubbish? Will give examples if you wish. |

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Having watched the programme on BBC1 tonight "Poor Kids" a distressing programme about the appalling conditions poorer families live in throughout Britain that brought me to tears on several occasions, I simply do not understand why such vast sums of money are being given away to foreigners.
Am I proud of our foreign aid budget as I have today been told I should be? Am I ashamed of the conditions of damp and disease that British kids are growing up in? These kids, bright, well able to express themselves, ALL attempted to justify and rationalise their squalid and cash strapped existences. I felt humbled and heartbroken by it all. What a stupid government we have...... |
