Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Sorry - link didn't copy - here is the article from Sify News :-
Goa chief minister impressed with CWG facilities 2010-09-22 16:30:00 Panaji, Sep 22 (IANS) A portion of a false ceiling at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main venue of the Commonwealth Games (CWG), collapsed in New Delhi Wednesday, a day after a foot overbridge near the stadium came crashing down. But Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat says he is 'impressed' by the facilities built for the Games. Kamat said he was 'impressed' by the work by the CWG officials, according to a government release here on his visit to the Games sites. 'Goa Chief Minister Mr. Digambar Kamat visited Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee swimming complex, Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi today and was impressed by the world class facilities,' said the state information and publicity department in its release. Kamat, who is also the president of the Swimming Federation of India (SFI), was in New Delhi Tuesday 'to inspect all areas of the complex and its facilities along with a team of officials and assess the facilities status'. Kamat was accompanied by SFI secretary Virender Nanavati, Venue Commander and Asian Games silver medalist Khajan Singh Tokas and deputy director general (sports) of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Roque Dias. 'After visit and inspection, the chief minister commented that he was happy with all the facilities to make the aquatics event a grand success,' the statement added. Some 7,000 participants and officials from 71 countries and territories are expected to attend the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games, India's biggest sporting event since the 1982 Asian Games. |

Thanks Noni hope all is well with you,
We are OK but not keen on the continuing exile situation. With regard to the CWG I note DC is suggesting that there are no real problems just as Sheila Dixcit and Reddy and Kamat are saying. Lets really hope that the best interests of all participants are considered and they are given accurate information. There are nearly 2000 cases of Dengue reported to date. There was a report a couple of weeks on CNN IBN back that 60 lorries with explosives and dtonators went missing between Rajestan and UP. (How could they go missing!). The situation is a little worrying to say the least. On a slightly different tack, Prudent media ran a piece a couple of weeks ago on the Russian Counsels demands that Russians be treated well and not branded as criminals for making 'mistakes' In diplo speak he suggested that despite the relationship between Russia and India they may consider loosening ties. What about our Govt.? r |

I would certainly be thinking twice about going there especially having seen Noni's photos & what I can glean from BBC World. It was Indias opportunity to shine and they f****d up bigtime. It has certainly killed off any notion i have had of going to Delhi. At least it has highlighted 'how India operates' to the rest of the world. Maybe just maybe they will start to realise how far behind the west they really are.....and its not down to money or lack of know how, its down mainly to corruption and greed. Stating the obvious i know. |

Stating the obvious i know. Hi, Agreed with all you have said. What an utter showing up for India and in front of the rest of the world. Sad! Banyan. |
Re: In To-day's Newspapers
India is certainly showing what it's all about to the captive audience! Seeing (very) young boys trying to lay pavements with just bricks and no tools. Women carrying bags of cement on their heads (really, at this stage, they need it by the truckload!) and children painting the road signs. The men appear to be 'supervising'. Looking good India! Well done!

Re: In To-day's Newspapers
Did anyone notice this from Goan Voice 21st Sept? How did jade Jagger manage to get a house in Goa & possibly set up a business - I wonder if she is under investigation? Is she any different from the rest of us or does the name "pull strings" & "grease palms"?
Jezebel jewelry designer, D.J., and former model Jade Jagger will open a new store in India this November, a project she hinted at to British Vogue in March and expanded upon last night at London's Sake No Hana. “It’s in Goa, of course, right on the beach, and quite close to my house there," she told The Cut. "I want to make it glamorous, but it will have a lot more beachwear and similar jewelry.†Also, has anyone noticed that everytime there seems to be a comment made by the Travel & Tourism Association of Goa, it seems to come from a different person? How many presidents has it had in the past couple of years? First main charters by mid October? More tourists wandering around aimlessly as there will be no shacks and very few restaurants open. A repetition of last years fiasco, methinks........... |
