Goa MP calls Russian envoy’s action ‘rough’
31 Jan: IANS. Goa Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik, who has in the past been hauled up for his callous comments on rape, Sunday said the Russian Ambassador’s reaction was “rough” when he threatened to issue advisory against Goa ... “For a country (Russia) where there is nearly no rule of law, he cannot comment on administration here,” Naik said

Good stuff.

Does anyone know if Nationals from other EEC countries are being harassed as well?. What are they doing and what are their governments doing to help them? With the UK being part of the EEC is there a larger resource we have not mined yet?

At the BHC meeting the consular bloke said that he was co-ordinating with USA, individual EU countries and the EU.

Great.

Recently met someone who was offered a 'time share' in Goa. There are many time share owners from Europe into Goa and so far there doesnt seem to have been much affect on them. Surely, they too are subject to these newly discovered 'rules'?

Doubt it, they are basically tweakers and probably only have a lease or rental agreement for two weeks a year which leaves ownership with the developer.
Does anyone know for certain?

never heard of timeshare in Goa and it's difficult to see how it could be set up under Indian law - but who knows?

There are timeshares in Goa. Apparently there's a couple in Baga and more elsewhere. As to how these have been set up is a good question, because again, it contrasts with the concept of purchase in India. Since timeshares exist in Goa and have for many years, therefore all the professions that are necessarily involved know full well what Indian regulations are, including builders. From what is known, timeshares existed well before the wave of FNs buying property outright. Doesnt this compound complicity somewhere? Is the BHC aware of this?

a-f-d - you must the only person in Goa who has not been approached by the time share touts that ply the main Candolim/Calangute/Baga road. They were even giving out bottles of Kingfisher earlier this season so they could strike up a conversation with you.
Where we live in Spain we are accosted by these pests every time we leave home and are told we can swop 2 weeks anywhere for 2 weeks at Royal Goan Beach Club (as said by J5).

Is 2 weeks the max or can stays be beyond 3 months with time shares?. The underlying principle Im told is that it all depends on the amount you spend for the facilities and schedules you want. I gather that it varies from seven thousand pounds up for two weeks per year for life in off season only schedules?

Yes it all depends on what you purchase. Friends of mine bought in Portugal and then swapped their weeks there for here in Goa and foolishly bought more time at the Royal Goan Beachclub in Benaulim. We stayed there with them once and have to say it was overpriced rubbish. Shabby and worn and nowhere the 5 star level they promise. Not a good buy.

We actually "won " a 2 week holiday once from the place in Baga ( in the dim and distant days when we used to come here on holiday ) and never bothered to take it as the initial outlay they wanted you to pay for booking it was quite high and it was non refundable . A big risk when you know full well that with timeshare you never actually know if you are really going to get the time you have supposedly won.

About 10 years ago I had very negative experience back in the UK where again I "won " a holiday for 4 people in Spain and found out it was nothing after I stupidly had spent two hundred pounds on paying their booking fee. They kept changing the dates of our booking and flights etc ( saying that it was all subject to availability )and after 2 years we never got the holiday despite many efforts. You can imagine how hard it was to keep changing the dates of your holiday while at work and it just never materialised. Finally the company ( which was based in Bath) went into receivership and potential holiday makers like us were considered too low a priority to be paid out by the Receivers. Surprisingly just one month after that debacle the company was up and running again in the same location with the same Directors but under a new name. Nothing to be done! I would give their name but have forgotten it and only have the paperwork back in the UK.

As far as I am concerned timeshare anywhere is a "con " pure and simple.

The timeshare location is the Goan Beach Club on Baga river road, my friends foolishly brought one several years ago, and like everything goan werent given what they paid for, they were very naive as we all are when they first came to goa and could only see through rose tinted glasses, they were shown a wonderful apartment but when they came here for their slot were put in a different apartment and have never stayed in it since, they are now trying to sell it back.... same old same old .. the sale reps used to only try and sell to FN couples but now hit on indians....

Fort Aguada resort do a time-share as well. Its a complete con. Friends of ours have been saddled with so-called 'maintenance contribution' charges on top of what they have paid and the place they say is getting worse year by year ! They now have touts at the airport who take your details down for a competition and then call you the next day to say you have 'won' a place at one of their time-shares -the Haathi Mahal in Cavelossim is one of them and another con. We were offered the services of a free taxi for the day with unlimited mileage so long as we would spend an hour at one of their presentations !
