The Plumbers crack
#157
I've read this thread the whole way through and I'm still none the wiser about what the plumbers have cracked.
If it's a bit of pipe, then some good old duct tape might suffice as a short-to-medium term solution, but if it's a piece of sanitaryware - a toilet pan, or a wash hand basin, say - then it'll need to be replaced, and at his own cost too, I might add.

I call bollocks. I know people far smarter than me who have gone into trades as they could see which way the money was blowing. I'd hazzard it has more to do with the trades being respected more and therefore being able to get a job that suited them vs geeks like me who want a 'good' job and end up getting demoted in the move over as there are plenty of university educated Canadians.
Anecdotally, I am very happy here. And I'd challenge Kate or anyone here to go up vs my non-university educated brother and discuss philopshers with, as I'm sure you'd not only have a blast but learn something from him. (vice versa also possibly true depending on who the non-brother party was)

I found ten minutes to pop in.....let me try again. These were Stats Can findings not mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not saying anything about the intelligence of tradesmen or the mentally challenged. I know that intelligence takes many forms.
However, university educated people are more inclined to like ideas and have
a different criteria for what makes life enjoyable so for instance in the UK you have brilliant journalism and radio 4 to listen to. In Canada these are lacking. The Globe and Mail is tedious and the CBS is dull. I think that's what these stats portray. There are no great museums to do research in and there is nowhere to get in touch with a past that you feel connected to.
I have nothing against tradesmen.but how many can you discuss Jung or Neitzche with? If you have a liking for education lets not say intelligence then coming away from a rich heritage might leave you feeling bereft.
Right I'm off again............why do I have to be so busy.
I did the LSD when I was young maybe that's what's wrong with me it scrambled my brain more than I know!

This folksy anti-intellectualism is so north America, way to go with the assimilation. Sarah Palin rocks.
