I can't imagine any of the others saying anything like that, they are all more positive than me about the attributes of Australia.

That post of mine which you quoted above was a direct response to the OP of the thread who asked who moderates the moderators. Unusually for me it was a helpful reply - if anyone has a problem with the Mods contact Sue. :)

A silly question, but if you are not happy in Australia why are you still there, you made a statement earlier that you fly to the UK on a regular basis, so you must have ties here in the UK, I hate the way the UK is heading, life here is not like it used to be, even 5 years ago, it is why I decided I want to get out, why stay in a place what makes you unhappy

People living in Australia can say the same thing: life here is not like it used to be and many do not like the way Australia is going. Some people might not be happy here, but wouldn't be happy in the UK either, so they might consider that Australia (or the UK) is the lesser of two evils. Others can't leave kids, grandkids or OH to move to the country they'd rather be in. Some can't earn a living at their preferred occupation in their first choice of country. Some happy to live in Australia, some in the UK. Every possibility exists.

It might seem that those of us lucky enough to have obtained PR are trying to stop others doing the same, but I think that a lot of the stuff you read on here is an injection of reality to treat some amazing misconceptions about life in 'The Lucky Country'.

Garry, perhaps it's time that you moved over so that you can finally see for yourself, instead of seeing things through the eyes of those already here.

I have a job here, I don't have one back home. If I go home I have no job, and because I work with storms and cyclones its not an area which translates easily to the UK. Also I have no property to sell and no money behind me to give me a cushion to get started from back home. Nearly got made redundant a few months back - if that had come off I would've gone home cos I'd have had the cash to do it, but it didn't, so I'm still here.

According to some of the moderators moving to Australia is a big mistake and is just full of doom and gloom.
Lets get something straight anyone looking at Australia through tinted glasses are fools, every country has its problems to various levels.
Being English, I am patriotic, but quality of life in the UK has slipped down very sharply in the last twenty years, Anyone going for a quiet pint in ANY town in UK has to watch their back, the prisons are so full knife crimes and rape are classed as petty crimes now, might get a year or 2, anything else a slapped wrist if we are lucky, a lot of towns have no go areas after certain times even for the police, the thought of having public barbecues anywhere let alone in big cities like Brisbane and Perth is only a dream, within a day or 2 they would be wrecked or used as drug dens in the UK.
Lets talk about immigration, I know when I arrive in Australia, if I do not work I will not get paid, I will not get free health care, I will not be entitled to pensions or any benefits until I have worked for at least 2 years, if I do not fit the bill at the airport I will be put on the next flight, unlike here in the UK as soon as they step of the plane they are giving free house, benefits the lot, if they have children back in their own country they are entitled to more benefits, and because of Blairs idea to open the doors to everyone, the country is now crippled, the once proud NHS is slowly dying, the retirement age has now been increased because they can not afford to pay the pensions. We have faceless unelected EEC bureaucrats ruling us.
The op mentioned about nothing being exported being British made, many of the typically British companys , Rolls Royce, British steel, Cadburys are not British owned, I want to leave the UK not because I hate the country, but because of how it is being run, the country has had it.

the only bit i agree with is the NHS

I'd just like to say that Polly is one of the best mods I've ever seen on a board. It doesn't matter that she's not sold on Aus. She doesn't have to be.

Bix maybe you are right, little things like please and thank you do seem to be a thing of the past here in the UK, may be small things but they make a big impression, on one or two of my threads that I started maybe I did not say thankyou, my apologises if it is true

yeah I know its terrible, nothing like Australia!

You really are quite silly aren't you.

Take a look at some of these.

Several injured during night of violence in Perth
Man glassed in Clarkson
Train violence
Heathridge Robbery
Violent robbers
Man stabbed in Yokine

Ailing WA hospitals lag nation

As I said in my last post to you, I love Perth more than most on this board and it is my home but if you are coming here with some kind of delusional notion that it doesn't suffer the same issues as parts of the UK then you are going to be in for a huge shock.

So you feel it's fine to knock people for passing on facts that you don't like but we're not allowed to find what you say or rather the way you say it insulting? I made a light hearted comment to someone which ended in a :D and you decide that as a Mod I'm supposed to have a 'better attitude' than 'normal' posters? How does that work then? I am a 'normal' poster who happened to be in a slightly bad mood last night and who didn't need to read that posting facts was unhelpful. The fact that I am also a Mod is in this case irrelevant. We, as Mods, are not special, not superior to anyone else, we're simply posters who Sue has asked to help and support the Discussion Boards. We are still entitled to our opinions.

Re: Why is everyone so serious ?

I'm just starting to realise how lucky I was on my recent trip to the UK  I drank in 6 or 7 different pubs while there and obviously through pure luck I wasn't stabbed or raped, not even once. I found people in shops to be generally happy and friendly and had people thank me when I held a door. How lucky was I that I didn't go to that other UK some talk about
I would really hate to live in that UK that's for sure, it sounds like hell.
