Make sure no little toerag has crapped on it first though:lol:

According to some of the moderators moving to Australia is a big mistake and is just full of doom and gloom.
Lets get something straight anyone looking at Australia through tinted glasses are fools, every country has its problems to various levels.
Being English, I am patriotic, but quality of life in the UK has slipped down very sharply in the last twenty years, Anyone going for a quiet pint in ANY town in UK has to watch their back, the prisons are so full knife crimes and rape are classed as petty crimes now, might get a year or 2, anything else a slapped wrist if we are lucky, a lot of towns have no go areas after certain times even for the police, the thought of having public barbecues anywhere let alone in big cities like Brisbane and Perth is only a dream, within a day or 2 they would be wrecked or used as drug dens in the UK.
Lets talk about immigration, I know when I arrive in Australia, if I do not work I will not get paid, I will not get free health care, I will not be entitled to pensions or any benefits until I have worked for at least 2 years, if I do not fit the bill at the airport I will be put on the next flight, unlike here in the UK as soon as they step of the plane they are giving free house, benefits the lot, if they have children back in their own country they are entitled to more benefits, and because of Blairs idea to open the doors to everyone, the country is now crippled, the once proud NHS is slowly dying, the retirement age has now been increased because they can not afford to pay the pensions. We have faceless unelected EEC bureaucrats ruling us.
The op mentioned about nothing being exported being British made, many of the typically British companys , Rolls Royce, British steel, Cadburys are not British owned, I want to leave the UK not because I hate the country, but because of how it is being run, the country has had it.

Brilliant stuff. You'll fit right in with the red necks over here.

Indeed, future migrants should also be aware of the national prevalance for bored teens to embed razor blades in the slides. :sneaky:

Jesus, worraload of sh*te!

Actually, you will get free healthcare when you step off the plane. You will also be entitled to thousands of other dollars of tax payers' money - whether you've bothered to lift a finger or not. So I don't know how you 'knew' you wouldn't get any of these things. I guess you don't 'know' much about how things really work in Australia.

I actually saw a public barbeque in a park in Dundee yesterday (yeah I was surprised too!) and judging by the rust on it it had been there for a looooong time, not vandalised though.

That wasn't a BBQ, that was community housing.

I'm not going to bother arguing with most of your comments because they're complete nonsense. However I do take exception to the two sentences I've highlighted. First off, the point about little help is really fricking rude and totally untrue. Many many people go to a great deal of trouble to help, support and advise others, to say there is little help, totally negates the bloody hard work those people put in.:frown: The second point, could you please show me where even one mod has said that, let alone some.

I think what's happened is that one mod has interfered with Gaz's rose tints...the one's he's apparently not wearing.

You really do want a barney don't you?

Good luck, you're in for a long night with that one

Yes you will. Australia and the UK share a reciprocal agreement under which Australians in the UK have access to the NHS and Brits in Australia have access to Medicare. This is even permissible on a temporary visa.

unlike here in the UK as soon as they step of the plane they are giving free house, benefits the lot
I emigrated to the UK in January 2004 and lived there for nearly 6 years. During that time I saw no evidence to substantiate this assertion. On the contrary, despite being an immigrant myself, I didn't get a free house, or any benefits (except the NHS). The popular misconception that immigrants to the UK get everything handed to them on a plate is founded upon little more than urban myths.

the country has had it.
This is simply not true. The UK is still a great place to live.

For me sonlymewater is by a country mile the best poster on here moderator or otherwise, speaks perfect sense, sensibly and without prejudice, perhaps we can can all learn from his approach!

Vim, as a Lewisham boy rainham is a relative paradise and if the Oz adventure doesn't work out id consider returning here. Don't know Hoo well but I'll take your word for it. All about opinions and all relative which is why I take the knowing comments from those down under with a pinch of salt when they talk about crime and cost of living etc. I read
, listen and use my personal crap filter to take what I think is useful and move on. Why oh why people take these forums so seriously and personally is beyond me.

Peace and kumbaya

Sounds like the right attitude, I came here with no expectations and I think this is probably the best course. One of my sisters lives in Rainham and seems perfectly content with it so horses for courses. :)

After further consideration with an ex-local I may not have in fact lived in Hoo, it might have been AllHallows ... My memory is dim and my early 20s seem a very, very long way away and I was very, very drunk most of the time ;)
