That might work for some occupations, especially those which involve mainly male workers and/or strong unions. Doesn't work in categories dominated by women, such as childcare workers and aged care workers, who usually earn less than cleaners:blink:. For some migrants, the Australian wage for their job might seem like a small fortune, but would be a low income in Australia. Sometimes there is not a suitable body of knowledge in Australia to do the training.
The jobs might be taken by migrants but usually by partners of the main visa holder. |

But actually I don't think those lower paid jobs are on any list for visa purposes anyway.

It is a matter of good timing, but this can be as hard to decide as trying to align all the planets:unsure:. For some people, they might never quite get to the point where they have a huge wad of cash to migrate with, due to conditions in their home country. Sometimes, though, you can miss the boat with migrating and your occupation disappears from the SOL, or your visa expires. There's all sorts of stories on BE about surviving setbacks in the migration process.
There are no guarantees for a lot of migrants. Some know that they can waltz into secure and well-paid jobs, others are trying for months to get jobs that pay below average wages. It's very considerate of you to save the Australian taxpayers some money, but most of them wouldn't know you from a bar of soap if you miss your opportunity and never get again:unsure:. As Alistair says, you will find work and you'll be contributing to the pot of money Canberra likes to spend. You might just need a helping hand at the start or occasionally here and there. It's worth trying to get a job lined up before you get here, but that has proved very difficult for many migrants. Sometmes jobs just pop up at short notice and they need someone already here. Planning and logistics are not necessarily strong points in some organisations;). Good on you trying, though. |

I would question the leadership of a government that would import migrants knowing they cannot support themselves.
If the job is that important you either pay higher wages to attract the immigrant or to pay for training so it can be fulfilled from within. |

One reason why many people stay on the site after moving is because we all got help from BE during the migration process and now we want to help those coming along behind - like yourself. If everyone left BE after migrating to their chosen countries there would be no-one around to share experiences and give info on the process. You've asked questions on the site, we've all done that in our time. One of the aims of BE is that people will pay back what they have got from the forum - by helping others in the future. Also you'll find that a lot of us have made lasting real-life and cyber-friendships through the site, and we come on here to chat and to keep up those connections. Have a look at the meet-ups forum and you'll see just how many people connect with others through BE. Great way to make friends either before you arrive or once you get here - and we even allow Aussies to come to meets as well ;) |

Not quite enough time to trek through the bush, you have to admit. Some people are hilarious :D |

Unfortunately people have to work during the day and strangely enough the sun doesn't stay out in the evenings. For example where I am it's dark between 6-7pm all year round. Darkness is not condusive to "exploring" so how does one entertain oneself in the dark evenings? Well it tends to be the same stuff as in the UK. In the main people read, watch TV, or spend time on some type of games console or computer. Gawd help us some people even chat to people they know and also to strangers on BE in preference to those other things. No big deal but without that there would be just some factually based reference tool. There are lots of those sites out there so why don't people use them? Because they are not interactive like this one and that is a massive difference. |
