No, for suggesting that other people don't or that Doctors don't earn a decent salary already. I don't begrudge anyone eitsrning a decent salary but I see it being a stupid government decision to take $2 from a pensioner or lower income family to give to the doctor who is already getting paid a decent salary.

This fee is throwing the payment of medical services back on the consumer. If you, me or the other tax payers use the medical services infrequently then its a benefit.

But isn't medicare paid for in a deduction in your pay? And isn't that levy rising to 2.0% to fund this?

Probably lucky it isn't raising to 3%

So you pay a medicare levy - pay private medical in a lot of cases - and still pay to see a GP???

Lets take a step back. Can the current levy support the demand for public medical services? Don't know? If the levy is raising then this would suggest it can't.

So if this is the case, then yes, I will have to pay to see a GP.

But if it's not enough, then why not raise the levy higher rather than invent a whole new payment? The structure already exists and is not going to require additional administration.

If you make people afraid to visit a GP because of cost - low-paid, chronically ill, etc - wont it end up costing more in the long run?

Well that's one argument against it and probably the strongest argument. Arguments for being it will slow down the GP addicts. The other being it becomes a pay-as-you use service.

Thankfully its not a big fee. Many people use non bulk billing doctors anyway and are quite happy to pay the extra. Many people don't use doctors at all.

Not been as yet - but we haven't been here long.

Is the fee payable by all or are there exceptions - kids and pensioners for instance?

Hang on. The government are not introducing this as a deterrent to go to the doctor and it is actually a strong reason to not introduce it. Are you saying that your preference is that people will decide to go to the doctor less and cost you less money? You through in the excuse of doctors deserving a fair wage earlier when they themselves are protesting against this. Is it true that you're just thinking of your own pocket here?

Those people need to be identified and made work. They don't account for all welfare claimants though.
