The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:25 PM, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Coolangatta, Beaudesert and Oakington. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Boonah, Beenleigh and Logan City by 4:55 PM and Rathdowney, Laravale and northern parts of North Stradbroke Island by 5:25 PM.
Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.
Other thunderstorms are developing in the warning area and some of these may become severe.
A 93 km/h wind gust was recorded at Cape Moreton just after 3 pm.
Hope you finished your dump, Mr Fuego......

Luckily they seem to like going either side of us ... phew. If there's enough beer in the fridge and the other puts her weight against it he should be fine.

That's one hell of a front or cunim, Polly!
You certainly get some severe weather changes here: I remember watching a southerly change going over Sydney airport while holding overhead: you could actually see the different airmass as it went through, the refractive index was such a change. The wind went from Northerly at 30kts to southerly at 60kts within thirty seconds or so.

I find the cloud patterns here can be fascinating, just as spectacular as some of the lightning pics. I've seen some amazing shapes while coming in on flights, though nothing to beat the pure green cunims that I saw over India the first time I came out - they were towering thousands of feet above the plane, and as I had a cockpit view at the time they were a truly stunning sight - needless to say we gave them a wide berth!

Re: The Ongoing Weather Thread – Storms, Drought, Climate!!!
Anyone interested in the weather at present, cyclone season officially starts today and the Bureau of Met gave us a nice briefing yesterday. An "active" season is predicted for Queensland, possibly two or three cyclones making landfall. We are now in the grip of La Nina, as opposed to El Nino, so more rain likely this season too.
The Bureau has launched a new cyclone centre page here -
