I picked a bad day to quit smoking...

"All hell is currently breaking loose following an explosion at reactor #2 and a another hydrogen explosion at reactor #4 per Kyodo, leading to a 16% drop in Nikkei futures as blind panic grips Japan. Kyodo essentially confirms there was a reactor meltdown as radiation levels at Fukushima 3 are now 400 times legal levels. And topping it all Japan's warning that all people within 30 kilometers from Fukushima should stay indoors and that the radioactive winds may reach Tokyo in as little as 8 hours. The BOJ has just intervened to prevent the yen from surging, as the following chart shows. Our prayers are with the people of Japan. "

It's officially hitting 'oh shit' levels now.
Well that's not very reassuring!

[QUOTE=asprilla;9240160]"British expats" should be renamed "british experts". Come to this forum for expert knowledge, advice, hints and tips on:

I used to work for BNFL, so have more than a nodding knowledge of the nuclear industry, but I now concur with GarryP - The feacal defecatory matter is about to impinge upon the apparatus particularly suited for generation of toroidal air motion.

Interesting times we live in. I dont suppose anyone can predict whats going to occur out of all of this, ramifications for the rest of the world etc etc. If we were to have another major catostrophe in another part of the world to equal this right now...we probably would have huge problems for world order.

Hope they fix it, before anything incredibly destructive happens elsewhere in other words.

I guess the time to really panic is when the net goes down

Is this shaping up to be bigger than 9/11 ?

See, I was happy with my head in the sand, getting vague 2nd/3rd/4th hand information. Now I've just been watching and listening to that and am really depressed. Back to the sand until I'm told to run.

Radiation levels of 400 millisevers (??) in the immediate area around the leak apparently. Thats harmful to humans they say

Doesn't sound great.

I'm going to Japan in a few weeks. If I come back with no hair and 8 eyes then you can consider it dangerous.

How much hair and how many eyes do you currently have? So we can compare later.
