Default Nuclear Meltdown?

-------------
JAPAN'S quake-hit nuclear power plant Fukushima No.1, about 250km north-east of Tokyo, "may be experiencing nuclear meltdown", local media says.
-------------

That'll be those new-fangled 'safe' nuclear reactors being all environmental then.

Damn straight it is ... the authorities reckon that if it does happen then it won't affect any humans outside a 10km radius.

Why do I find this hard to believe? It's the same kind of authority that said that the plants were unaffected yesterday ...

Aside for the immediate damage from the quake/tsunami which is bad enough, man has to invent new ways of compounding the problem.

My sympathies to all involved obviously but this nuclear thing is beyond madness.

It's ok, they're only releasing "slightly radioactive" vapour.

Well, that's OK then, it'll only be slightly cancerous.

That article is pants - this might happen, then that may happen, then it'll be three mile island. Another example of great journalism.

Do you not think we need to consider the "ifs"?

yeah but when we're at IF #4 and the blokes have all done a runner, then its time to panic.

right now it just looks like its a planned for event type failure and they're dealing with it as per the process.
