Me too. I ended up switching off when they were at about the letter G because it was so tedious. Went to bed (in UK at mo) so missed the rest of it, which I am disappointed about now.

Abide With Me is a sporting hymn sung at every FA final, as Mikelincs says, but also it marked the next chapter of ceremony which was about life and death and linked to the 7/7 bombings.
It's often sung at funerals - we sang it at my dad's funeral.

I thought Emile Sande sang it beautifully, it was quite moving.

All in all an incredible opening ceremony that will be very hard to beat, certainly nothing cringe worthy or embarrassing about any of it, it makes me even more proud to be British. Well done Danny Boyle and all concerned, absolute top marks.

Visually and aurally, I thought it was brilliant, by far the best OC I've seen. I wasn't bored at all and enjoyed every minute. However, had I not had the benefit of commentary then I would have struggled to work out some of the connections, particularly the 'Abide with Me' song, it was sung beautifully but I couldn't work out the dancing. Was it someone going to heaven?, was it about reconcilliation? I didn't get it it.

Loved the overhead shot of Beckham's boat racing the fireworks, brilliant.
