Is anyone going to watch the Olympic opening ceremony live?

Is anyone going to watch the Olympic opening ceremony live?
I guess it will be easier for eastern states posters as I believe it starts at 05:30 but it's 03:30 here in WA.
I'll try to watch it live but will probably end up watching a recording later in the morning.
So, who will light the cauldron?

Just don't understand the point or fuss over the opening (or closing) ceremony. Seems a waste of money to me, just let the people get on with their sponsored hobbies and be considered as national heroes whilst doing nothing heroic.

Unless Al Qaeda promise to get involved, no.

I doubt it. My wife is quite into the Olympics but when she found out she had to get up at 4 or 5 or whenever it is she gently curled a lip and changed the subject.

I'm not a huge sports fan but I like spectacle. I watched the royal wedding and the diamond jubilee stuff too, even though I'm a republican.
Maybe, like Vim I'm waiting to witness an historic terrorist atrocity, live on TV. I'll have my trading platform up and running, ready to short the S&P if it kicks off.

As I understand it, us in the real states get to see the ceremony start at 6:00am (although coverage starts earlier). Thus I'll probably watch it, but from bed.
Those who want to watch later in the day, it'll get repeated. In particular they will probably show the thing in 3D (for those with sets) from about 11:00am; a more reasonable time. No guarantees though, we are talking about Nine.
Those who have seen the rehearsals, even cynics, say its pretty good, though 'eccentric'. Personally I'm holding out for a mass moon at the IOC - that would be more typically British.

I will record it and watch tomorrow. I have netball with my youngest early so not practical. Hoping it goes well and stays dry because I was reading that the stadium hasn't been well designed to take into account the inclement weather the UK can get at this time of year.

I'm sure some of our mussie friends are going to try and make an appearance, somewhere along the line over the next 2 weeks. Whether they are successful is another story though.

There's a lot of chatter on the "tin foil hat" websites about a nuclear false flag attack.

Re: Is anyone going to watch the Olympic opening ceremony live?
My theory is the British media's mass campaign to ridicule everything in advance for weeks is the classic expectation-lowering gambit, so when it finally arrives and proceeds without fault everyone is blown away. For my part, I have never doubted that the British Olympics will go off without a hitch, and then I read about them raising the South Korean flag for the DPRK's team...
