Eden used to be fascinated by cockroaches on holiday too - until one actually hissed at her (he was a big bugger as well!)...

This question is for Kerry & Corinne and anyone else who recently left the UK for Tas. When you left the UK - did you give your new address in Tas to the Child Trust Fund people once you had a forwarding address? When did you notify them to stop your child benefit etc - did you have to tell them a month before moving? I dont want the hassle of having to "refund" any money that gets paid to us after we move...
Also, if you dont mind me asking - how quickly did your final bills for electric/gas etc take to come in once you'd actually notified them of your moving date?
Our original plans to hang around for a few weeks to sort all that kind of stuff out may change - so im going to ask a friend to do whatever i can't do within a few days after moving out....
I know i need to compose a list of all the people we pay money to so that i make sure we notify everyone of us moving...what with Andy being self-employed and paying his own National Ins etc etc it's going to be a long list!
Also, with regards to your GP's in the UK - did you tell them once you'd settled in Tas that you'd moved? Both myself and Andy need medication before emigrating - and we'll have to get a couple months supply and find a GP in Tas as soon as we arrive. I was thinking i'd probably be better off saying that we're going on a long trip for the extra tablets....as they're normally funny about prescribing too many in advance...
Anyway, as you can see i'm having a rambling kind of day as usual!

For the Bills we told the utility company we where moving abroad and got them to forward bills via our E-mail and gave mailing address of my parents "not sure if that is an option for you "
Child benefit - best to call them once you have your flights booked they will then sort it all out - no big stress....

Medication - I notified the local GP and got 2 months worth of tablets, finding a GP in Hobart is very easy as you "PAY" no short supply of them.

I never realised you were an Ex Pat - i thought you were a local!
(which i guess you are now!)...How long have you been in Tas?
I will be giving a friends address for mailing purposes - then she will send me whatever she needs to once we've a permanent address in Tas.
Thanks for the advice regarding tablets etc. I'm quite an organised person - and hate some things being out of my control for a while!

So we'd be able to visit a GP then once we've registered with medicare etc on arrival? what other info apart from address etc would they require?

Also make sure you have all you bank account setup for online makes thing a lot better as well as getting an account setup with the Commonwealth in the UK - makes transferring money so much easier.

We got the local GP to print up all our medical notes and we gave it to the local GP, as I said no big stress - i got the same drugs as I did in the UK - be aware that they cost more here

We're in the process of doing our Commonwealth bank account at the moment. Our UK accounts are with Abbey, Natwest (which Andy will close in a month or so's time) - and Royal Bank of Scotland. I think we'll keep the RBS and Abbey accounts both open - but i will need to sort out on-line banking with both of them as we currently dont use it. I want to keep my RBS credit card for when we emigrate to pay for flights and other stuff so thought i'd best keep that one open!

I opened one with the Comm Bank Aus when we were all ready to go and was also advised by lots of people on BE and in 'Real Life!' to open an Ozforex account to transfer the money through 1st (better rates..supposedly)
