Hi Monica,
After going to Longford last Sunday to visit a pub (The pub with the motorsport posters which used to be next to the race track!) I presume you mean 20 mins outside Launceston???
It looks like quite a nice place.
Good luck with your courses.

Hiya Travelbug,

I'm an Ulverstone local.... born and bred. If there's anything you'd like to know about this area I'd be happy to help.

Like Monica, I'd not live anywhere else but Tassie.

Is it mainly to see shows etc? if you dont mind me asking - have you always found plenty of things to do to keep you amused? I know some people have worried about what the Island may be like for when our own children get older (not that i guess we can predict that far ahead in the future)....but do you know many people that have moved over to the mainland in search of more choice of jobs etc once they've finished their studies?

As you're from the North of the Island - are you at all familiar with a place called Ulverstone? We're planning on moving to the Hobart area's once our UK house is sold - but my partner was contacted by a company based in Ulverstone so we are curious to find out anyone that knows the places' opinion on the town....

thanks! (and that'll be it for my questions today! )

Hello Julie

Welcome to British Expats! It is fabulous to see some locals coming here to chat I have only been here 5 months and I wouldn't ever live anywhere else now, I love this place soooo much, I feel like we really belong here.

That's just down the road from me. As each year passes it gets more and more popular as the word spreads about it!

oh no...... i may be in trouble when i get to Tas - nearly all the music festivals so far have been sponsored by my friends Jack and Jim!
do they have J.Daniels tents etc? if so, that may be where you'd find me!
you must get worn out with all your music stuff......but i must say it's nice to see people getting out and about at the weekend. We like to over here - but it's surprising how many people like to just stay in and vegetate at the weekend!

Hi Kerry, what kind of contacts do you use? Over here i've just cancelled my monthly contacts by post contract with Dolland & Aitchison. I was paying £19.50 a month for 1/2 months a supply... I hadn't been wearing my lenses much the last 2 years - so i've accumulated more than 8 months worth of boxes of lenses - which thankfully are in date for ages yet... Do people tend to bulk order or is there similar monthly collection/delivery options available like here in the UK?

Keane came at 34 weeks That must have been a shock! I'm sure it wont happen again with the little lady though! Eden was born roughly when she was due - but Jared was 5 days overdue - probably why he gained a bit more weight - he was over 10lb when born! (sooooo glad it wasnt a natural birth for that reason )

We did have a nice meal last night. Much to Eden's disappointment we couldnt go to Pizzahut as it was really busy - but we went to a Harvester restaurant about 20mins drive from where we live....and it was nice. Both her and Jared enjoyed their dinners anyway....and the fruit skewers with ice-cream and strawberry coulis meant Eden wasnt too upset about missing out on the Icecream Factory! Then we came home - and my younger brother and his wife popped round with her presents - we did her birthday cake - and thankfully her and Jared were in bed by 8.15pm still! It was weird as it was the 1st birthday of hers that she's spent in school all day....so strange not spending the whole day with her... My older brother is driving down from York today to see us all - haven't seen him for a while so that will be nice. Hopefully he'll come to Legoland with us and the kids tomorrow....
My younger brother is in my bad books after last night.....he was criticising the fact that i want to move into my Mum&Dads for 1-2 weeks after selling the house so that we can finalise some loose ends before flying....He thinks we shouldnt....i dont know how i bit my tongue and didnt ask him what the hell it has to do with him! :curse: I just said it would be nice for the kids to spend time with their grandparents before they dont see them for at least a year or so.....so that shut him up! :curse: I'm sure my Mum&Dad would be miffed if we stayed in a hotel or with other friends instead... Andy said i should have asked him if he was offering up his two spare bedrooms
