[QUOTE=ROBnCAZ]Firstly, I dont think this is a troll.......just someone asking a downright stupid question!!!! Guys, the very 1st thing that most people do when they buy a house is redecorate,,,budget in another couple of grand and get it looking just how YOU like it!!! Smell the coffee yet? It never ceases to amaze me the amount of people that buy a house based on the colour of the friggin walls!!
Secondly, and this is way off topic and may even offend some (oh, well there's a first!!)....why do most Scottish people on here, either insist on making reference to Scotland in their user name or insist on talking in some gaelic form of English when they type??? Do you see many English with names like George the Dragon or the round table knight from London...? Do we insist on talking in our local dialect (believe me, if I did, you wouldnt understand Jock)!!
I just dont get it??
OK, we're all proud of our heritage......but get over it for gawds sake!

Is it history repeating itself, the english trying to ban all things scottish

. You cant say "well because my house in the UK is worth $100K I should get the same for $200-$250K in australia" - it just doesnt work like that! Spend $350K & you should get something much nicer (at least in the bayside in Brisbane). That is an average sort of price here in Brisbane. And as for the rest of you on this thread - can't understand a word you are saying

I have looked at maybe 100 properties around the costs mentioned and almost all apart from a small minority looks like my Gran`s house back in the late seventies when i was a teenager, very old fashiones skirtings, facings, DOORS, flowery wall coverings, flowery tiling (real yellow dandy flowers) very dark green, mahogany wooden flooring AND kitchen fittings and units that i would be embarrased to put in a skip!
I`m thinking maybe a full overhaul of interior could cost many thousands of $
I tell you what, if i get the opportunity to have the pleasure in purchasing a house around the price that i feel comfortable with then maybe i can give you a call and hand you that couple of Grand to do te decor as long as you aggree to foot the rest to the point of keeping the missus happy
Maybe you can even go that bit further and throw me a link to a few houses around the $250K along with some pics that you would happily buy!
I've no doubt that people who are building houses now with the latest in jacuzzis, home theatres and stainless steel splashbacks will suffer the same comments about old-fashioned decor when they go to sell in 35 years time.

would i be right in saying that they seem to be a long way behind with interior decor with the exception of a few at the higher end price of the market?
One thing i can honestly say is that because of the size of properties they are mostly open plan which i really cant fault as back here in the UK you can only have open plan at the higher end house prices due to lack of space m2 that you get for your money.
Is this just another difference in lifestyles from the UK and OZ? they work to live and material items dont mean S***
I know i may get slayed for this post but, hey! the missus cant see us living in 99% of these houses which are within our budget and spend a fortune to have them completely overhauled inside to an aceptable standard (to the wife!)
Any comments or abuse will be appreciated! i will let her read allllllllllllllll your reply`s

I actually agree with the OP, the 'taste' here is very different to UK, and reminiscent of the 1970s. It doesn't mean they are behind here, it just means they have different style.
Seriously, the first time I ever got sent to Oz on a business trip, I had a look on the web at the apartment they were sending me to. OMG :scared: They really like their brown furniture in Oz, was my first thought.

The second thought was, haven't they refurbished that place since 1971?
As it turned out, it was a very nice modern apartment, and those brown chairs and brown sofas were apparently very modern stylish and expensive. But it doesn't change the fact I found them very 1970s.
And that can be extrapolated to all Aussie decor tastes. Not that I'm one to generalise.
Any day now flaired trousers will be coming into fashion

Everythings brown now, before that it was blue and yellow, really tacky look, dunno it just looked cheap and garish on a large house inside and out. But with brown you cant call it brown!! its latte, expresso, manhattan, but never brown.
Forget flares
, Shag pile carpet has just made a comeback, I am being serious its up there with home theatres you must do shag pile darling preferably in latte (brown) or aspen almond
(cream).

Personal computers are cheaper, don't use as much electricity and you don't have to program them. Although if you install it in the Lounge room it looks almost as good as a feature wall, especially when you turn off the lights and watch the lights flashing.

I'm Scottish and my User Name isn't Scottish and I actually write in reasonable English.Gaelic is a totally different language again.
Scots is actually recognised as a separate equal language to English not just a "lower class" form of English dialect like the Poms think it is.
In fact on the BBC website it states that the Scandanavian languages are more similar to one another than English and Scots are to one another.
I find that despite being well educated and living in Oz there are many words that have no translation into English which I still use such as "shoogly", "slitter","peely wally","fair scunnert","stour".
Where is Yeppoon by the way?
I thought it was beside yer knife and fork but my geography might be wrong!

While we're on this subject, can anyone tell me why British bathrooms still have carpet on the floor?
Talk about "retro."
