Oh and lets not forget how she NOW LIKES KIDS, what did she absolutly hate them before? or is it a case that those people are the only friends they have out there and the only reason they ared their friends because they cant find anyone else to talk to, I would have punched her for saying that, since hanging around with them they have now realised they like kids because they were hanging out with their kids, what sort of a wierdo doesnt like children???

Puts you off moving to Sydney knowing their there doesnt it.
Let's hope you get more support and less personal criticism when you finally get to Australia and need support.

Let's hope they don't use this forum eh? Remember these programmes are 'edited' probably all out of context.

I was surprised that yesterday's couple decided to make a go of it in Australia as having seen the footage of last year, I really thought they would decide NOT to go. Having watched yesterday's programme, I thought they seemed really settled and ready to give life down under a real chance. Best of luck to them and I hope it works out ok for them. Hopefully it won't be too long before we are in their position, (although not in Sydney thank you very much!)

Hi Racht70

So does this mean that they just take your word that you can support your family for 2 years and as long as your aware you cant claim social security your fine or are there actually quidelines on this matter. I have been on the immi website and i cant acually see anything regarding this on there maybe im looking in the wrong place. Not that im wanting to go out there and have it easy im just concerned that what money we will have will keep us going initially but hoping to get a job more or less as soon as i arrive. Im wanting to make a real go of it and am concerned that somebody in the visa office could just say no simply because they think we wont be able to fend for ourselves.
Sorry to babble on, and your probably wandering what this has to do with wanted down under lol

Cheers

I thought the same. Maybe, what seemed to be negativity was actually realism? They knew it would be hard, but they still wanted to move.

I think having kids would be hard for them right now with the job situation. Hopefully he can either get his Financial Advisor career going, (I think he had only been doing the job a few weeks) or find something else which suits him. Must be hard to have to go into the family business if that isn't what you want.

I think they are young enough and sensible enough to find solutions to these problems before they have kids.

Yep your right it could be edited to make them sound like a couple of whing bags You do 4get some times.

If they are on here I didn't want to offend them. It might not be their fault that they got on my T**s just the editing of the BBC.

I thought they were quite sweet really, he decided to change his job as he was never happy in his trade as it was a family business and he sort of fell into it. I can see her point of view too as insurance sales jobs rely heavily if not entirely on commission and the bit they showed was after a client has just cancelled meaning they would have no wages.
I think they were enjoying themselves and I sort felt excited for them to be setting up as a young couple in a new land. Good luck to them I say, I hope they do well.
As for the point about kids it sounds like they had been socialising with the other young family (something they may not have done much at home) and she had realised that children weren't so bad after all. I have several colleagues who were never going to have kids and are now 'earth mothers' and love it.
Good luck to them all.

Yes, you get no benefits for 2 years as you say.

They ask you on the visa form how much dosh you're taking with you but i don't think there's a minimum amount. You can put in whatever figure you like i'd guess?

If you are going on a skilled visa (PR) then you will be entitled to rent assistance and other benefits but it's basically there to stop you flying over, putting your feet up and signing on the dole

Thanx once again to both of you that makes me feel a lot better i was concerned about that. By the way going back to the programme i thought it was strange him changing career as drastically as he did especially in a strange enviroment. However good luck to the both of them especially as they only lived up the road from us. Weren't those birds on the balcony beautiful? it must be great to wake up with such beauty on your doorstep. (I dont mean her) lol only joking

Thanx again
