Yes. Ie, going to university and becoming professional elevated you from working class to middle - similar to starting your own company maybe. You then took middle class holidays to far flung places etc, bought a subtle yet exy car, invested in shares rather than a bling watch etc

Well they are classless in so much as they lack class but they definitely have a class system, it was at it's most 'obvious' from 1948 to 1994 when the 'lower classes' were treated worse than dogs.

Unfortunately there is plenty to be ashamed of. I visited Cape Town and Durban during those terrible years and although the country was very beautiful the attitude of many of it's white population was just disgusting, this is very recent history.
