Re: Nanny State - US v UK
i was in a recent deposition and this homeless guy was suing CVS and Walgreens because he thought the security guards had harrassed him. and your'e telling me that "because everyone can afford to sue the might of an insurance company." dude, if what everyone is telling me is true (but havent provided me with any proof) then they'd be mass class action law suits against the insurance companies. (if this has happened then i stand corrected, but until then SHOW ME THE PROOF!!!)
But here's some people you can help out if you're not too busy.

Dude, happens all the time, and generally in individual cases. Not everyone can afford a lawyer willing to take on an insurance company.

Erm, there are mass class action lawsuits against the insurance companies. I believe Kaiser Permanente is going through one now in California for pulling out of the state (which I believe is technically legal grounds for canceling all contracts).

i actually spoke to an insurance attorney today, this bloody web site was on my mind and i kept thinking back to a case involving a guy that was screwed with his insurance. so i asked the attorney and he told me that they drop people like flies and will screw over their own grandmother. seems like i've been talking out of my backside for the past frickin week!
note to self, read the small print and save, not for a rainy day, but when the brain surgeon is picking windscreen glass out of your brian and at the same time handing you a bill.

better than the NHS? Not so according to this:
http://www.commonwealthfund.org/publ...?doc_id=482678
Among the six nations studied—Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States—the U.S. ranks last, as it did in the 2006 and 2004 editions of Mirror, Mirror. Most troubling, the U.S. fails to achieve better health outcomes than the other countries, and as shown in the earlier editions, the U.S. is last on dimensions of access, patient safety, efficiency, and equity. The 2007 edition includes data from the six countries and incorporates patients' and physicians' survey results on care experiences and ratings on various dimensions of care.

So shoe on other foot now-why does the NHS have such serious financial woes?

Over burndened and miss use, but it's a catch 22, got to have that or put people off from using it through fear of being fined etc....but considering the levels of money the US does spend on healthcare, it must be able to come up with a better system?
