When i first started work one of the girls who worked there was only 20, she was a Harry Potter fanatic, i told her that in real life he was my nephew but she could not tell anyone because it was a secret. I kept it going for about 30 minutes giving her all of these 'secrets' about him and she believed everything i said, i could't keep a straight face any longer than that and had to tell her that i didn't know him at all.

If British people speak English as well as British?
If your from Britain does it make you a "real" British person?
If a British person is married to an American, will it turn the American into a Brit?
Is Britain near England?
Can island Britain is on float around and visit other countries?
and a more common question:
Will your baby talk with a british accent when its born?
Im not even joking about these questions, a girl I work with asked them. She was deadly serious about each question.

I am amazed at how many people asks if my husband wears a kilt when we go out to dinner.

Yes he does! He's very handsome. We went to some British Expats meetups in NYC last year. Most of the women there kept hitting on him. They weren't too chuffed when they found out he was married! We went to two of these meetups and we both were quite dissapointed by them. Mainly a young (22-28 or so) not very friendly crowd except for the women who were hitting on my husband but then didn't want to have any more conversation when he wasn't single.

That happened to me again yesterday. This confusion seems to extend to even the biggest celebrities.
I've been asked:
Do you celebrate 4th July?
Do you have Thanksgiving? No. Oh why not? Well... The Pilgrims didn't sail to Australia.
Do you use American money?
Do you celebrate Christmas?
