A late Louis Saha goal earned Manchester United share of the spoils at Highbury just when it seemed Thierry Henry's wonderful long-range strike was to prove decisive.
Henry had blasted the hosts ahead shortly after half-time with a stunning effort and although his compatriot Saha - a second-half substitute - poached a leveller five minutes it was not enough to prevent Arsenal from making it a record-breaking 30 Premiership games without defeat.
A hugely exciting encounter from the off, United threatened in the first minute when Gary Neville's long ball was allowed to run by Kolo Toure enabling Paul Scholes the chance to test Jens Lehmann, but the flame-haired midfielder could not get any purchase on his left-footed effort.
The Gunners responded when Thierry Henry played in Freddie Ljungberg who seemed to have a clear run on goal, but Wes Brown got back to make a crucial recovery challenge as the Swede prepared to pull the trigger.
Lehmann had endured an uncertain start and spilled a cross on 12 minutes to hand the visitors a corner, however he atoned by producing a fine stop after Eric Djemba-Djemba had tricked Vieira and unleashed a rasping 25-yard effort from Scholes's subsequent flag-kick.
Roy Carroll was called into action for first time on the quarter-hour mark to deny Spaniard Jose Reyes - a surprise starter in place of Dennis Bergkamp - who had escaped down the left and fired in low near-post effort.
Henry, who had made a quiet start to the game by his standards, burst into life on 23 minutes with a fierce strike that flew over for a corner, and just a few moments the Frenchman was crudely felled on the edge of the box by Roy Keane after a scintillating run from his own half.
The pre-match tension, which had hitherto bubbled below the surface, threatened to erupt on the half-hour mark when Patrick Vieira's crunching challenge on Ruud van Nistelrooy left the Dutchman crumpled on the floor and drew both Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger into heated discussion on the touchline.
Vieira - who did appear to win the ball - did not receive a caution for the tackle, but the intensity of the game clearly rose a notch or two in its aftermath.
Arsenal should have hit the front five minutes before the break. Ljungberg released Henry with an expertly weighted pass but - as he seemed set to shoot - the Frenchman chose to try and cut inside the advancing Carroll and went over theatrically in search of a penalty, and the chance was gone.
The visitors had the last word of the first period, though, but Keane - lurking at the far post - saw his left-footed drive fly wide from Scholes's mis-hit cross.
Henry atoned for his first half miss in some style with a superlative strike to break the deadlock four minutes after the restart. After exchanging passes with Reyes, the hit-man looked up and unleashed a ferocious 30-yard strike whose sheer power left Carroll grasping at thin air, and the majority of Highbury in raptures.
United thought they should have been awarded the chance to reply from the penalty spot just minutes later when Sol Campbell appeared to clip Ryan Giggs as he raced into the box, but referee Graham Poll waved away their vehement and prolonged protests.
The hosts then had a penalty shout of their own when Reyes fell under the challenge of Carroll after Pires had bundled the ball through to him, but the Spaniard was never truly in control of the situation and did not get the verdict.
Fergsuon introduced both Saha and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as his troops pressed for an equaliser, but it was the hosts - now playing largely on the counter-attack - who should have extended their lead when Ljungberg was clean through. However, the midfielder did not quite have legs to shake off United's covering defenders and failed to seriously test Carroll with his shot.
United continued to press and Brown could not direct a difficult header on target when Solskjaer flashed a cross-cum-shot into the Arsenal box.
The warning signs were on the wall for The Gunners though and five minutes from time parity was restored. Scholes played in Solskjaer down the right and the Norwegian's low cross eluded van Nistelrooy at the near post but not Saha at the far who could not miss from no more than five yards.
In a dramatic finale both sides had chances to snatch a win; van Nistelrooy could only head straight at Lehmann from Giggs's cute cross and then Henry headed wide after Carroll had blocked at the feet of Lauren.

Beckham's loss is a blow to an already depleted squad with Michael Owen, Ashley Cole and Kieron Dyer also out because of injury.
Sol Campbell, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Wayne Bridge and Frank Lampard are missing as well as they have been rested. Steven Gerrard and John Terry are the likely candidates to take over the captaincy.
come again?
John Terry???????????????

Gerrard is captain for Wednesday:

He's still a bit argumentative, but a better choice than Terry.
8 Scottish footballers pulled out of their friendly with Romania:

More proof that they have given up on the international team.

Forgot to mention - Scotland squad and eight of them pulling out. (I could do a joke about Leicester players and Spain here but I won't) anyways...
Bertie wants 11 of the strongest players to face Romania - Tony clean them boots and wait for the phone to ring, you might get a game.

The SPL changes the rules again and allows ground sharing, ostensibly for Division 1 clubs that don't have 10k seater stadia and undersoil heating. For the SPL clubs this means that
Dundee & Dundee Utd can share, and Hearts can go to Murrayfield. There will be relegation from the SPL this season
, most likely Partick Thistle. Unless Aberdeen go into freefall. Out of the 4 teams chasing promotion from Division 1 only Caley don't appear to have got a ground sharing agreement in place yet.

Just purchased 2 tickets for the Celtic Chelsea game...yeah I am starved of football up here in the wild west
![Sad](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/sad.gif)
The question is, seeing as it's the Celtic end will I get my ass kicked for wearing a.a scotland shirt or b.taking a st andrews flag? Not sure on this one...I had a butchers at the celtic man utd game last year and there was one lad with a st andrews flag in the Celtic end...not as if I will meet many mad glaswegians who will know what it is anyhow.
