I also *used* to be a car and bike nut in the UK and Europe, but driving here has completely killed my enthusiasm - I find it tedious, boring and the roads are generally full of extremely rude and poorly trained drivers not paying attention and yacking or texting on cell phones, eating Big Macs and drinking 90oz buckets of coke, not to mention all going out getting pissed and driving home.
Wife and I have a 2006 Mazda 3 five door and 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander. |

Wife and I have a 2006 Mazda 3 five door and 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander. I've been driving an Acura TL; before that, Acura Legend (15 yrs); Honda Accord; Honda Accord - 4 cars in 27 years. The Japanese cars are so well made, and cheaper to service (and buy!) than the German cars. And yes, I know that an Acura is just a more expensive version of a Honda; just like a BMW 540 with leather package, sports wheel package, heated seat package, navigation package, stability package, etc etc is more expensive than a BMW 525 without all the extras ... |

Re: What do you drive?
They have a pretty cool British classic car and motorcycle meet here from time to time. Very nice Jags, MGs, TRs etc. Reminds me of the Triumph Spitfire I had as a teenager. Five of us went to Glastonbury Festival in it one year and it was never the same.

You should head out west, young man! We have awesome driving out here. Due to job requirements, I've been driving between the Bay Area and Phoenix, AZ. I fly most of the time, but have driven maybe 5 round trips so far, making a road-trip out of it. I've driven via Tahoe, Yosemite, various routes through the Mojave desert, Death Valley, etc. There are some fabulous roads into Phoenix, also - fast, through rolling hills, virtually no traffic, great scenery. There's something wonderful about driving for hours through mountains ... highway '395' in CA is a real treat - the road itself is at around 6,000 feet, and passes Mt. Whitney at 14,000 feet and then you turn into Death Valley at 200 feet below sea level!. There's nothing like it in the UK ... .

Question for you guys: how do you find a hatchback and sedan different, in terms of convenience?
