Ohhhhh that's a pretty Lorry;) Reminds me of a long distance driver I dated in my youth, I would sometimes go with him on his overnighters, deep joy!! :D

Lorry = truck, semi, rig, 18-wheeler

a pick-up truck is either just a pick-up truck or a pick-up. You have to say either or, can't only say truck because people here will think you're talking about the 18-wheeler. "Hey that's a nice pick-up you have there" is what I would say, as an example

Used to drive a Leyland Lynx for beer tokens.

Now have Dodge Ram pickup and Porsche 928S4 also have to look after the daily driver, a Saturn and the kids cars, Chevy Blazer and Buick.

Pick-ups are commonly referred to only as "trucks" here in Texas.

Dam, did i get screwed. Bought a big 10" chrome stack for my new Freightliner Cascadia but when it came in the silencer is underneath the chassis, just like the old European lorries of long ago.

Now that's a truck, smoke from the stack and built to work, not some artsy fartsy delicate piece of plastic crap. (like what i drive:o)

I still can't figure out why the Four Way Stop works so well. When my friends here ask what we have in the UK, and I try and explain the Roundabout, they mostly look at me with a blank expression. I wonder which causes the most accidents?

I had an accident on a roundabout once but never at a 4 way stop sign. That's about as scientific as I can get. :D

4 way stops are rubbish...it's always a case of the biggest pick up goes first regardless of who got there first and heaven help if anyone if everyone gets to the stop signs at the same time, drivers priority doesn't exist here...

Oh My God, you guys ... you must be new around here. Don't you know, everything European is simply better ... ? It is universally believed, here on BE, that 4-way stops are useless and roundabouts are supreme!

Personally, I hate roundabouts and find 4-way stops to be wonderful. Roundabouts take up a LOT more space, too - unless you have those 'mini-roundabouts' with a big dollop of white paint in the center ...

Thsi thread will now turn into the 'roundabout' debate ... :)

I thought the aim with mini-roundabouts was to drive straight over leaving tyre marks on the white paint. It's in the Highway Code isn't it?

I quite like 4-way stop signs.

I have no strong feelings about roundabouts, though we do have one in our little town.

Let us end this debate right now!

Roundabouts and Stop signs are for people with no common sense what so ever.

All they do is slow the idiots down.

For those of us with a brain it's merely a place for us to stop and take a second to observe the idiots at play.

I purposefully take my time (Which involves waiting a second) to see who is willing to break the law and receive an ear full of my horn. It's much fun!
