Oh yes, Placido Domingo's outfit What did you see?
We have an excellent opera house in San Francisco but I have met only two people who have actually been.
However, I have had numerous conversations along the lines of:
- What do you miss most?
* Opera
- Oh - you like opera? Me too!
* That's great - which is your favourite opera?
- Phantom of the Opera
*
(I am *not* kidding...)

Read Jeff Foxworthy -very funny, but there's a lot of truth in it.
Some true facts about my home State:
1) A proposal to ban guns in schools failed because the children might want to go hunting after school.
2) A proposal to reduce oral sex (even between married couples) from a felony to a misdemeanor didn't pass because delegates were afraid to vote for it
3) Until recently it was legal to carry your kid in the back of your pickup but not your dog.
And yes - you guessed it - it's in the South.

Welcome to BE, diecast,
I'd say bugger the kids that want to go hunting, they ain't having guns at school! Kids at school are there to be educated. Educate the parents at the same time into accepting that their sweet little darlin's shouldn't always have their own friggin' way! ... .... It's the parents that are at fault.
So which southern State are you in?

I'm in Virginia.
We also recently failed to require background checks for people buying guns at gun shows, despite pressure from other States and despite the recent college massacre ("the guy didn't buy his guns at a gun show, so it's OK"). I believe I read that most guns used for crimes in New York were bought in Virginia.
My wife and I go to estate sales, and there are usually about 7-8 guns for each house that is cleared out. I'd hate to be a burglar here - the population is armed to the teeth!
By the way there's a huge difference between Northern VA (greater DC) and the rest of the State. We moved from SW VA (where the VA Tech massacre was) to near Dulles, and they're all Yankees here.
You should hear me say "y'all" with a British accent though. That's worth the trip.
