What is the difference between the US North & South mentality?

Two of the greatest forces in the human psyche are attitude and emotion. They exert influence on every facet of our human existence. They are the root cause of war and peace, love and hate, belief and skepticism (to serve as three examples). They influence our destiny, not only as individuals but as a species. They also divide Nations, within and without.

In America, what are your impressions of peoples attitudes and emotions born and bred in the Southern States as opposed to those in the North, and vis versa? What are the blatant 'in your face' differences?

I don't know any southerners to compare ... but not as many religious nutters over here, if that helps. Except maybe a few Jehovah's that come knocking on doors

Couldn't help but laugh at loud at this...

From a mid-westerner's (or some might call me Southern) perspective:

South: laid back
North: uptight

South: accent makes 'em sound un-edumacated
North: not much discernable accent

South: conservative, Bible thumpers. God is great, guides our daily lives mentality
North: agnostic/more atheists, God only makes my life a living hell mentality.

I can provide more insight when I get home from work..will need to have a good think..

My life is about 50/50 North and South and that's not counting 7 years in Ohio because that was the Midwest, but kind of southern Midwest.

North-we talk faster 'cuz otherwise the words freeze
South-they talk slower 'cuz it's too hot to get excited.

North-Liberal with pockets of conservatism, but not of a religious nature
South-Conservative with pockets of liberalism flavored with religious nature.

North-Chowdah
South-Grits

Well put.

I'd say the children in the South are much more polite.
In fact, they are more polite than the kids back home in England.
We get "yessirs, no ma'ams and Miss/Mr/Mrs quite a lot.
