By extension (post #7390), you're calling me a communist too, which I believe is a first!

Oh yeah, I've been stuck behind those before, too.

I never call the number, I just figure it'll be someone telling me to **** off at the other end. That's what I'd set it up to be.

I've called a few times - they ask a LOT of questions - not just the serial number on the sticker, but also the tag on the vehicle and a description of it, presumably to ensure that all three match up. Then they want the location and direction etc., before they ask what sort of incident you're reporting.

I called the business phone number of a house painter, posted in the window of an F150 once, hoping to get the driver as he was ploughing along the interstate at 70mph with a completely flat tire. ..... It was his wife at home who answered the phone!

That's an awful lot of info to collect and relay when you're bombing along the interstate at 8 ..., 70-odd mph. They probably ask all that so the caller gives up on the call and they don't have to actually do anything about the fact that they employ people who drive a car marginally less well than a monkey on meth.

Funny you should mention the lorries. Driving on the freeways in (central/northern) California when we were there last year, I was pleasantly surprised that the lorries for the most part kept to the slow lanes where they belong.

Then we get off the plane home, and not five minutes after entering I-94 outside Milwaukee airport, we were stuck behind a lorry doing 56 trying to overtake another one doing 55. Utter arsing wankpots.

yep ! I've been stuck for a mile or two behind one big rig in the fast lane struggling to overtake another in the slow lane and since interstates are mostly two lanes only that doesn't help

Yes, my cruise control is faster than yours and everyone knows once you switch them on they cannot be turned off !! Yes i know they can, if the truck being overtaken would knock it off for a few seconds the overtaker could get by a bit quicker but not many do, last thing we want is people using common sense.:lol::lol:

This is when you wish you could remotely apply the brakes or disable the cruise control.

I remember once following some distance behind two trucks "passing" each other. A BMW zooms past me and gets right behind the trucks and flashes his lights at them.

As you can imagine, this did not convince the truck drivers to hurry up.

Obviously the problem isn't that they won't hurry up, it's that they can't. That I know and have no problem with, what annoys me is that the one can't just accept his fate and sit behind the other so they can be slow together, rather than attempting the three hour overtake.

Brings back memories of driving a diesel Cavalier, maybe that was only a 2 hour overtake. It used to slow down to 50 going up any slight incline and red line at 4k

Sounds like fun.

Another thing that annoys me are drivers using the special lane reserved for big slow trucks on steep grades to get ahead of everybody else going up the hill. It's probably illegal also by crossing a solid painted line to get in and out of the lane.

Freeway drivers do it frequently to get in and out of the diamond lanes instead of waiting to get to the properly marked entrance /exits. It's around a 250 dollar fine if you're caught however and goes on your record.

The only fun bit was that it was my first company car and it got 60 mpg.
