There's one near me that stops at a decommissioned railway line. The tracks only exist where they cross the road, if you look down the line in either direction you'll see that they have been removed everywhere else. They still stop there. Must be expecting a hovertrain or something.

Bloody school buses. Well American ones anyway, they're so ****ing obnoxious, stopping every six feet and putting on their stupid nanny state red lights and stop signs. Made even worse by the fact that a major commuter railway line into Chicago starts in our town and crosses several roads on my way into work, and of course the irritating shits stop by those for seventeen years because one bus got hit by a train in the 1860s

When we got the bus into school, we rode normal buses and the entire road didn't have to stop when we got on and off because surprise surprise our parents taught us that it's stupid to run out into the road when traffic is present. Both my schools were on busy stretches of one of the busiest roads in the area as well. The only time someone got hit was at the pelican crossing, once, never from a bus.

Of course, this morning it wasn't bad enough that a couple of parents parked their **** ugly SUVs right in the middle of the road at the stop sign, but did the bus pull over a bit so I could nip out turning away from him onto the main road? Did he bollocks. ****ing twat. I hope he gets a mind bogglingly itchy arse and isn't able to scratch it.

Every time I see an American School bus I go off on a similar rant. I really must stop doing it because yesterday afternoon BabyChog said ********er VERY clearly when I paused to draw breath

Every time we see a school bus when we're out and about (actually, often it's just another driver) my daughter always asks if they're in my way

When we come to power, our orbital lasers will be trained on any school bus that comes within 500ft of a highway on ramp.

Bastards.

Yes. This. A million times yes.

We'll sort things right out

Husbandchog says it's a good job I'm not allowed to run for president, because i want to stand on a roadside execution for bad driving platform. I feel this would be a political winner because no-one thinks they are a bad driver

Would you make it federal law that all interstate highways have a minimum speed of 85 mph and no maximum? I'd vote for anyone who'd do that.

Average speed here seems to be about 75 or so. That will see you keeping up, kinda, with people still passing you on both sides.

Then the school bus appears. 50mph. Absolute chaos behind it as everyone tries to avoid the sodding thing.

Average speed in the Chicago metro area is about the same. Problem is, while the rest of the state has a 70 mph limit; the six counties around Chicago are stuck with 55. On bloody motorways. So if you drive like a normal, civilised person, the bloody county sheriffs and state rozzers are there to ram it up your arse dry.

As I saw as a sig line on a roads forum: speed limits limit life

I mentioned the speeds driven, not the speed limit. Speed limit is a mix of 50, 55 and 65 on that stretch of highway.

Extra annoying, as to keep up you MUST break the limit. Attempting to drive the posted limit is terrifying.

And downright dangerous.

Everyone knows speed limits are not set to maximise safety anyway, it's for generating revenue. The only reason to drop a motorway limit below 70 is to allow for increased traffic levels and an increased density of exits such as one would find on an urban motorway.

Since we don't really have urban motorways in the US, there's no need for the 55 limit, beyond a few hundred bucks per ticket, per driver pulled over.

They really are insufferable twats.

I was in my Mustang on Monday afternoon lined up on the fifth or sixth row of the grid waiting in traffic at lights, :o to join the interstate. The grid was two-wide, the ramp two lanes pinching to one after about a quarter mile immediately before merging onto the interstate. The two lanes were a sweeping 180° downhill curve. :) Did I mention I was in the Mustang?

The lights turned green and as we made the 90° left turn onto the ramp we picked up speed and cars ahead of me moved progressively into the left lane. By the time we got to the pinch I was in the lead, and doing 85mph, just perfect for a seamless merge onto the interstate!

When the light goes green, drivers, usually SUV's, that are sooo slow to react...
