It is definitely a lot more than an alliance.
If you pull parts off a lot of Nissans you will have Renault parts in your hands.

My brother-in-law has had a Megane he bought new 10 years ago. It was reliable until the usual faults all started happening in rapid succession.

My Sis decided that they needed another Japanese (and definitely not another French) car after they sold their Civic and they bought a Nissan Cashcow.
It took me a while to stop laughing as I explained to them that they'd basically bought a hybrid Japanese/French car.
In the following months fixing inherent faults on it I showed them that each part that had failed had 'Renault' stamped on them.

Didn't take them too long to rid themselves of it and get a nice dieseasal Civic.

The nuts and bolts of how it works, I don't know.

FIL isn't to bothered as he has a works truck and when he has to use his own, gets a company credit card to pay for the petrol as he doesn't have a diesel truck.
Loggers here are classified as normal trucks they pull them over for inspections all the time for overweight and spot checks for damaged trailers.

Farm Use means no inspections, emissions or CDL needed in theory there is a 25 mile from home limit but nobody really cares about that.
My neighbor had "Farm Use" on his Cadillac.

I don't mind Renault. Their engines have won more Grands Prix than, say, Chevrolet for example

GM have made more Grand Prix's than Renault. Does that help?

And it is one I never thought I'd ever manage until the 2.2 CDTi arrived. It is clearly the devil's work.

GM can suck it. I'm a Ford man

My favourite F1 pairing was McLaren-Honda, closely followed by Williams-Renault, so I am a tiny bit biased on that score.

As much as I liked Mansell/Patrese - still second to the McLaren-Hondas of those seasons.
