Slavery existed throughout human history. My ancestors from northern England and Scotland sometime enslaved by the Romans ( which I remind any Italian friends). America and Britain cooperated in the 19th century in efforts to end the slave trade.
Empires throughout history have conducted themselves in a manner today we would find appalling. The British Empire also brought benefits to many areas that were colonized.
If paying slave owners part of the politics necessary to end the slave trade and slavery, then it was overall a good thing.
I am unsure where the rather strange idea that the British introduced slavery to the Americas and the Caribbean comes from. Forgetting any local slavery, clearly the Portugese and Spanish introduced via the Atlantic the slave trade to the Americas.

Grind grind broken record. Give it a rest and move on. The thread is already far off course and I've no intention of continuing with this pissing contest.
These days it's the little things that get me through the day. Like feasting on the salty tears of all those Trump loyalists who aren't getting anything in return for it.

If you don't want the criticism, then refrain from making comments that deserve the criticism. This is not a safe space for your hostility toward Mexicans or immigration hypocrisy.

I am relatively new to this forum. Not being sarcastic but is hostility towards any group acceptable whether from a country or from standpoint of political views ? I get the impression- and I could be wrong- that some hostility is accepted in these forums , but other is judged acceptable.

It's not just this forum, it's civilized society. I'm sick of explaining this to people who claim to be worldly adults.
A general rule for being a decent human ... the more vulnerable the group is then the less cool it is to show hostility toward them.

It's not illegal to be hostile to minority groups and nobody is trying to take away your rights. But you will be judged by what you say and how you say it. If somebody uses the "N" word in front of me, I don't scream or call 911 or shoot them, but I will never ever feel the same about them.
