Don't talk to me about Reagan, the creator of the double windfall penalty. Wasn't socialist enough to provide some government funding for hospitals which often have to operate on pretty tight budgets at times.

Salt Lake city? I can understand it being a sanctuary city.
If illegals aren't being chased by politicians for future votes they're being chased by LDS as future tithing material

The legals probably fill professional occupations because there's a shortage in some occupations and they cannot be filled by native born.

Go into any hospital or medical clinic where I live and look at the names on the board in the lobby. One in perhaps ten of European origin the rest either Asian or middle eastern.

The other thing is that if a native born American has the education to qualify for med school he or she might just not be able to afford it and even if they managed to become MDs they must have a mountain of debt tied around their necks for years

As for that bloke born 25th of this month sorry but he wasn't and no one knows the actual date either Some Roman Emperor fixed the date of his birth while setting up the calendar much of it what we use to this day. I always though December was a bit dodgy because if there were lambs present in the manger then it must have been in spring sometime. Ewes don't lamb in winter

In California illegals are now are allowed to apply for drivers licenses, their kids educated at public schools and no hospital can turn away a person who needs medical attention even if that person has no health insurance coverage.
The good side of the latter is that's it's humane on the other hand governments while wanting no part in providing any funding whatsoever for hospitals and medical centers nevertheless pass laws mandating that hospitals must foot the medical bills from their own budgets if there's no recourse to recover medical treatment costs from any other source. In cases like that it all comes down to the taxpayers in the end.
I doubt hospital executives or most of their staff suffer unduly from having to treat people in emergency rooms. Considering what doctors and hospitals are allowed to charge.

As far as listening to recommendations of police in how to best combat crime I tend to lean towards their thoughts. As far as community policing effects it seems fairly consistent that in discussions of issue it is seen as one of methods to reduce crime. Maybe issue there isn't enough community policing.

You are right about the costs incurred in this situation, but I wonder whether measures taken such as driver's licenses etc can be correlated to the rates of people crossing the border or overstaying their visas.

If border controller and heavier sanctions on people employing those without proper papers were done the problem could be greatly reduced. Neither party since Reagan has had the political courage and determination to control the border. Plus the negative effect on Mexico, arms and money going to cartels in the other direction.

Right. People can bang on about people being here illegally until the cows come home, but if they're working - somebody has been employing them.

Absolutely correct. The requirement that employers verify the employment status of prospective employees, via the I-9 Form, has been the law for 30 years. There are three problems: 1) some employers, especially in the construction industry, simply ignore the law and pay people under the table (sometimes calling the new hire an Independant Contractor), thus avoiding the law and not having to bother with such trivia as paying witholding taxes, SS, UC contributions, Workers Comp, etc (thus giving them an advantage over other employers who follow the law); 2) many of the prospective hires use false documents that facially meet the requirements of I-9 and get the employer off the hook if there is an audit by ICE; 3) eVerify is very imperfect and the ACLU, amongst others, fights it tooth and nail.

I wonder why Koop doesn't call Mrs. Trump an 'illegal'. She's a criminal and is taking jobs away from Americans. She stole Mrs. Obama's speech and Bill Clinton's job.
I think that we've already figured out that white European illegals are A-OK.

It's the ones who are of the darker variety who are the problem for the Koops of the world. Some animals are more equal than others.

We I think have come to the conclusion that there is a great demand for people to do jobs that Americans will not do, and/or at wages that are below what Americans would want.

So the only option to avoid the illegality is to have a route where people can come in legally.

It will never happen. If the workers are here legally ... they might actually have some human rights. The powers that be will never let that happen. Undocumented (preferably non-English speaking) workers are the closest thing that we have to slavery ever since that pesky Emancipation Proclamation. The most awesome thing about this modern day slavery? Middle class and poor white male Americans with low self esteem ... are licensed to verbally abuse the workers on the internet! Yay and woo! It really is like the slave days, rich people exploit them while pretending to be benevolent and the white trash people have somebody to feel superior to. Win win.

Sounds like a tiny minority.
