Haven't heard 5am, must give it a listen.

Jimmy Page makes my top 5 (Mike Oldfield is above him, arguably a more weird choice to you than Brian May ). Stevie Ray Vaughn is good, but the blues isn't really that hard to play and it does start sounding the same after a while. Much as I like The Edge, if you switch off his delay unit, he wouldn't sound half as good as he does. Master of effects, yes and definitely a top-10 guitarist but just doesn't have enough, well, edge for me

It's all totally subjective, of course. Knopfler and Gilmour are and will remain untouchable as far as I'm concerned though.
Mike Oldfield is certainly a weird choice, but as Tubular Bells was my first ever music purchase, I won't complain too much. Interesting comments.

Good research. I had heard The Who were up there too.

I sometimes wonder the decibel level achieved the day I put my head between two hifi speakers (12" woofers) and listened to Stairway and full tilt. It seemed pretty loud at the time!

Better than talking about old people running for office

Tubular Bells doesn't really showcase his talent as a guitarist, rather as a composer and arranger. Later works show off his guitar playing much better (starting with Ommadawn) and his technique and style really are very good.

He tends to be underrated because many fans of guitar music aren't really into his stuff.

Then go create your own old people music thread, and leave us to discuss how Uncle Bernie is going to be the next President.

I'm more than happy to talk about Uncle Bernie becoming President. Based on what I heard about his numbers this morning, Auntie Hillary might be starting to shit herself a bit.

You can think of Bernie as the lovable, but slightly cantankerous uncle who always has a bag of Werthers when you go to his house. While Hillary is that rich aunt who always has an excuse why she forgot your birthday.

Obviously Trump is that other uncle who doesn't get invited to Christmas any more after the incident when your sister brought that black fellow as a date.

There was a film made about her during the time she was running as John McCain's Vice President. Her campaign assistants were coaching her in class 101 world affairs. Later on she appeared to have suffered some sort of nervous breakdown and she never finished her term as Alaska Governor either I cannot understand why Trump would want anything to do with her.
Does he really want to run a credible campaign as President in 2017 or just turn his campaign into a three ring circus?

Fairly sure it was a "mis-step" as they say. Either that or he is so high on his "doubling down" strategy that he has lost sight of the bigger picture.

Sarah Palin is all about Sarah Palin. She quit as governor of Alaska because she saw she could parlay her "fame" into $$$. Similarly, her spun out saga over whether she'd run in '12 allowed her to extract $$$s from her supporters.

I guess Trump has made the judgment call that having Palin in tow will shore up his support amongst the Tea Party crowd versus Cruz. If Trump becomes the nominee I'd expect him to quietly sideline her.
