2016 Election
#3316
This whole election is a major disappointment. On the left we have an ancient socialist running against a failed Secretary of State who, by all rights should be prosecuted like Petraeus for roughly the same offence, running against a nonentity from Maryland. On the right we have a billionaire deal-maker with a bad haircut, a couple of Cubans, The Shrub, the Governor from the Great State of Ohio who has solved all the world's problems from his office in Columbus, and let's not forget, a couple of God-botherers. Oh, and the guy who closed the road to the bridge to get even with a mayor who didn't support him (or whose people did that for him, same difference.)

I believe that one reason John McCain lost to Obama in 2009 was McCain's choice of Palin as his running mate. Very early in the campaign she showed that she was a complete lightweight. Voters looking at McCain's age back then which was 70 must have thought "My God she's only one heartbeat away from the White House" I've sometimes wondered if McCain chose her hoping to get the votes from women who were upset over Hilary losing the nomination to Obama

I am guessing that this is a paid for endorsement. It would be interesting to see how much she was paid for her appearance.

Did Trump change his hair color? He keeps looking more and more blonde. I think he started this campaign as a red-head.

These people who are enthusiastic for Trump, attend rallies etc. Do we even know whether they are even the type who turn out on the day, to vote?

Let's hope not! Perhaps as Leslie said, this Palin endorsement really is Trump jumping the shark. There must be many moderate Republicans for whom the Palin association will be a red flag on his judgement. Even he looked a bit wary as he stood there on the stage listening to Palin make own folksy hockey-mom speech endorsing him. Such an embarrassment that in a country as advanced as the U.S., two clowns of this calibre can actually be a serious part of the leadership process.

You elite posters are sneering non-stop at Republican populists, something you would never dream of doing to Sanders, who is a left-wing populist, pure and simple. How many of you here would acknowledge that Sanders really is a socialist as you all understand socialists? Am I wrong in thinking that you believe, as some have posted here, that the Democrat Party is actually to the right of the Tories? If so, and if Sanders is a socialist, with the support of nearly a majority of Democrats, is the party not on the cusp of being a socialist party?

I watched most of Sarah Palin's speech in which she delivered her endorsement of Trump. It was painful to endure because of her high-pitched delivery. What she was actually saying was powerful red meat to those who feel alienated from the elites in the Republican party.

I'm not sure if Bernie Sanders is an out and out socialist more than a social democrat. Even if he does gain the support of the majority of Democrats, the party is no more on the cusp of becoming a socialist party than Labour are. Socialism is just a pejorative term thrown around in the US to describe someone who supports egalitarianism and might want people to pay a little more tax. It's pathetic, really, the pure diet of fear upon which the American right lives.

Give the Americans some credit, a few decades back Bernie would have been labelled a communist. But I agree, he's pretty much a social democrat not that far from mainstream British or Canadian political parties. Strategically, he should have nipped the 'socialist' label in the bud at the start of his campaign; it's too loaded a term in the US.

Imagine what they'd have thought if I said I support single payer healthcare and a higher minimum wage
