Can Russian air power stop that? Interesting question.

If your analysis is correct (I just can't face keeping up with the Syrian situation right now) then I'd say we should not be supporting the rebels ('our guys'). We saw what happened when we took out the despicable Iraqi strongman, so why do we want to take out the despicable Syrian strongman ...?

Good luck getting an answer to that.

Politics tend to he less heated here in general. Even the worst here is nowhere close to what you see in the US.

Of course we shouldn't ignore one of Russia's other main reasons for flexing their military power in Syria - propaganda.

They are broadcasting a very interesting perspective back home designed to promote national pride and project Russian might on the world stage. A whole bunch of new war toys with cameras attached. Never mind the fact the economy is in the toilet over there at the moment.

Can't help but feel very sorry for the ordinary Syrian caught in the middle of this ghastly nightmare.

Perhaps the difference is that since the Americans are electing the "Leader of the Free World" the election here matters to some extent. Canada's election has about as much effect on the world as the elections in Denmark.

Obama was trying to turn the country into a large, cozy multi-culti Denmark; but the people here aren't quite comfortable with the "transforming America" into a scandinavian-style social democracy gig. And they're not as polite as our friends in the Great White North either.

He sounds stoned constantly. Or as if the doctor has just told him to start counting backwards from 100.

People are already reconsidering the idea that brain surgeons are smart. Rocket scientists are our only hope.

It's only running a country, it's not like it's brain surgery or somefink.

I understand the best ones are currently working in Iran since our programmes have been cut back.

Oh God, wasn't it awful? By the end of the hearing I was just yelling at the TV, "Somebody hose him down for God's sake --- he's flammable!!"

Yes, any idiot could run this country, and we've had nothing but those running things for the past several decades. A brain surgeon wants his chance now.

Actually, Hitler and Speer put on the first modern rock concerts, check out Triumph of the Will for an early boffo video of the genre.

Well since running back to Wisconsin with his tail between his legs, it looks like Scott Walker has something to hide...

I suspect that if there were any "there" there, the NYT would have trumpeted it. Looks like politics as usual in the Badger State, and in the liberal fever swamps of the NYT's editorial offices as well. But, as long as he's down, let's keep kicking him.

He's being "kicked' not because he's down but because he's overturned a law that:

"In the early 2000s, this investigative system helped prosecutors gather evidence necessary to expose and convict several Democrats and Republicans who committed a host of felonies and misdemeanors while in office, ranging from campaigning while on the clock as state employees to extortion and abuse of power."
