2016 Election

Yeah, it's a made up drama. FWIW, I was the one who was attacked first. I was called lazy and then when I responded, I was called a lazy whiner. All this by somebody who was completely missing the point of my post and going down rabbit holes about people not wanting get ID ... which did not apply. Giantaxe pointed out some home truths and holes in his argument and got accused of triggering some sort of mental health episode. Then Smith goes on another forum and slags us off, claiming damages against us. Now over there in Canada, they're hurling insults about people who aren't bothering them in any way whatsoever. This is typical of people who pick fights over matters of which they are ill informed and then play the victim when they get their feet held to the fire. Whatever the "trigger" may have been ... he brought it in with him -- he didn't get it here.
The flounce was just the icing on the cake, really. Sometimes this place is worse than bloody school. I really don't understand why everyone has to be so bloody sensitive all the time.

Anyone have any thoughts on whether Ryan - if he decides to run for Speaker - can get the R caucus running in a sensible direction? Or will the Freedom Caucus make it impossible for anyone to do that. IOW, is the Freedom Caucus a "rule or ruin" bunch?
#1849
Good question. I can easily imagine the freedom caucus saying "sure we'll behave" vote Ryan in and then a few months down the line start throwing a fit over abortion or something stupid. Either that or Ryan will have to make some huge concession just to win the vote.

It looks like the job title should be "Cat Herder." Much as I viscerally dislike her, Pelosi was, I think, an effective Speaker. Could be that her caucus was made up, for the most part, of people as disciplined as the DPRK Workers' Party.

I don't see anything changing just because Paul Ryan has the job. Their whole M.O. has been about no compromise from the beginning, and they've already demonstrated they're not bothered about the damage they'd do the economy if they don't get their way after the whole debt ceiling debacle when Boehner had to break the Hastert Rule to get the vote passed.

So Diamond Joe isn't getting in this thing. Say hello to the next President: Hillary Clinton.

Not election related per se, but I am very impressed with Paul Ryan. A policy wonk who actually seems to want to get out there and show the way (all be it on his terms) - I could easily see him as President in 2024 (assuming a 2 term president in 2016/20)

This just in about Trump (not my guy, yet anyway) from the Canadian Brain Trust:
Donald Trump was invited to address a major gathering of the American Indian Nation two weeks ago in upstate New York
He spoke for almost an hour about his plans for increasing every Native American's present standard of living. He referred to how he had supported every Native American issue that came to the news media.
Although Mr Trump was vague about the details of his plans, he seemed most enthusiastic and spoke eloquently about his ideas for helping his "red sisters and brothers."
At the conclusion of his speech, the Tribes presented him with a plaque inscribed with his new Indian name, "Walking Eagle."
The proud Mr Trump accepted the plaque and then departed in his motorcade to a fundraiser, waving to the crowds.
A news reporter later asked the group of chiefs how they came to select the new name they had given to the Donald.
They explained that "Walking Eagle" is the name given to a bird so full of shit it can no longer fly.

Talking of Canadians... Trudeau making waves already about pulling out of the ISIS campaign, legalizing weed, tax the wealthy, admit refugees and much more. It will be interesting to see if such policies rub off on the candidates here or affects their numbers.

Splendid to see that Canada is pulling out of the fight against terrorism, isn't that greatest news ever!!!
Now if we could just get everyone else to stop bothering ISIS and let them do what jihadis were born to do.
