2016 Election

What Trump is doing, and this is why the RNC is horrified, is alienating the Hispanic vote from the entire Republican coalition. He is making this too easy for the Dems. The Democratic nominee, whomever it may be, won't even have to work for the Hispanic vote now. I actually feel sad about that because the Dems have seriously let down that huge portion of the base, on many levels. At the end of the day, they've now been given the choice between (1) the Dems who have taken them for granted or (2) the Republicans who consider them subhuman and want them eradicated from the planet.

I'm afraid you may be right, and that Bush can't repair the damage Trump has done. If The Donald doesn't mount a 3rd party effort, the only way Bush wins is if the electorate has become so polarized on the immigration issue that there is a major shift of white Dems to the Republican candidate offsetting a massive pro-Dem Hispanic vote - but Bush's position on immigration won't make that happen. So the end result seems a foregone conclusion.
Fast forward to 2016. The fantasy scenario for the RNC is a boring election where the minorities stay home. Trump is activating the Hispanic vote ... on steroids.

Alienate the Hispanic vote? The only way they could do that would be to kick out the most influential news anchor on univision from a news conference and then talk about him behind his back. Doing that would be silly.

Yeah, and something that nobody is talking about ... Trump mentioned Ferguson and Detroit when he was lecturing Ramos about gangs and murderers. That's just Trump telegraphing his next dog whistle to the base. We're going to have to start a list:
Mexicans
Chinese
Black Americans
Muslims should be coming down the pipe soon.

Texter 2: No way, that guy gives me the creeps 'cause I'm zenophobic.
Texter 1: Don't you mean Xenophobic?
Texter 2: Oh yeah. Whatever.

I remember posting on BE during the countdown between Romney and Obama in 2012. I was wrong about thinking it would be super close --- it wasn't. But, I was right about it coming down to the Hispanic vote --- it did. If the black and Hispanic voters had all stayed home, Romney could have won. But they didn't and so he didn't.

Pity the election isn't this year. People have short memories and if things settle down next year, much of this may be forgotten (except the Hispanic issue, perhaps).
