I just watched a BBC report interviewing Americans on the street about Trump.

When asked if they like him, all but a few said they love his candor and disregard for political correctness. When asked if they would vote for him as president, most said no.

He is certainly making the campaign more entertaining then normal.

All that Donald Trump has done so far is wave his dick around. When will the Republican electorate wake from their collective slumber and realize that they've been made fools of? It would be funny if it weren't so damned sad.

Agree with your point. It could be that the Trump boomlet is due to a sense among the electorate that nothing anyone does will make any difference in the country's drift. (Sort of like the sense of powerlessness that seems to be seeping into the EU electorates.)

I wonder whether your observation might not apply equally to the Democrats. I suspect Joe is going to make things interesting, at last. If he and Warren are going to be the ticket there should be a fairly clear choice to be made.

I wonder if Jeb Bush's tweet that Trump's immigration 'plan' would be "catastrophic" qualifies as a Republican wake-up....?

Oh, and Trump's insulting Megyn Kelly again, now that she's back on Fox News after her unexpected 'holiday'....

He would run head first in to the Posse Comitatus Act which prohibits use of Federal troops to enforce laws on U.S. soil etc. It was temporarily amended under Bush to permit it, but the amendment repealed a few years later. They can be used in the case of insurrection. I doubt abortion clinics count as insurrection. He could try to use the National Guard, I suspect, as the act does not cover them.

People need to figure out what the hell they believe if that's the case. How can they believe that nothing that anyone does will make a difference yet the whole country was destroyed by Obama? Or that the system is broken and politicians can't fix anything yet Donald Trump can and will make America great again.

My observation is based on the fact that Trump doesn't believe in anything and he has no policy platform. He's riffing and making this whole thing up as he goes. His entire campaign is based on fear mongering about Mexicans (who, by the way, don't even make up the majority of illegal immigrants anymore but whatever), bragging about the size of his "crowds", belittling the size of the others "crowds", and accusing Jeb Bush of being low energy. He's a charlatan and he's making a fool out of anybody that supports him. He's a tent show revivalist and snake oil salesman. You can't say that about anybody in the Democratic party or even any of the other Republicans. You may not agree with them or trust them ... but they do have actual platforms.

As for the first part of your post, I understand that there is a strong sense of frustration in the base that despite having seized control of both the House and Senate in the 2010/2014 elections, they can't stop what THEY (not I) perceive as Obama's train wreck, because McConnell and Boehner won't (can't?) stop it. I believe that's part or all of Trump's appeal.

As for the rest of the R field, personally, I think Fiorina the Fierce - can I get away with that yet? - and Kasich make the best case for themselves. On the other hand, I suppose it's Hillary, although I do like Webb and appreciate the stir that Bernie's creating. Agree that aside from Hillary and her self-created problems, the Ds are more sedate/less entertaining.

Kasich does seem the most sensible of the bunch, which probably means he has little chance of winning the primary. Fiorina was a very poor candidate when she ran for the Senate, but maybe she'll do better this time around.

I understand why the Republican base is disillusioned. I've been disillusioned in politicians/politics many times. It's life. Any time somebody is getting something they really want, somebody else is getting a turd sandwich. However, I don't see how that disillusionment translates over into supporting a wife-raping ass-clown like Donald Trump. He's a con man and it's stupid gullible people that are falling for him, either that or people that hate America so much they want to see it burn. (Read that as racists, homophobes, and misogynistic white males who are convinced they've somehow been screwed out of the lottery of life and everybody else is getting all their "stuff". IOW --- Idiots.)

As for conservatives in general, I can see the appeal of Fiorina. She's worked hard to improve herself as a serious candidate. I don't agree with much she's said but I do respect serious people and I think she's taking this whole thing very seriously.

Honestly, I can stomach Ted Cruz better than Donald Trump. Cruz is a mercenary preacher's son but yet on some level, he is a true believer.

Marco Rubio looks and speaks like a child. It's just gross and he's a horrible candidate, no matter how good he "looks" on paper.

I like Jeb and he doesn't scare me. I don't think there's a lot of daylight between him and Hillary, tbh. I wouldn't vote for him but if he won, I wouldn't throw up.

More later ... there are too many to put in one post.

Mark my words: when the smoke clears, it will be Bush with Fiorina as his running mate. Not too sure about the other side at this point. Whoever that is will win, because Trump, the egomaniac, will ensure that the Bush-Fiorina ticket falls short by pulling his Ross Perot Third Party gig. He's got the money to burn to do it. Is he really a clever Clinton-inspired Trojan Horse meant to paint the Rs into absurd corners - and then...?

What Trump is doing, and this is why the RNC is horrified, is alienating the Hispanic vote from the entire Republican coalition. He is making this too easy for the Dems. The Democratic nominee, whomever it may be, won't even have to work for the Hispanic vote now. I actually feel sad about that because the Dems have seriously let down that huge portion of the base, on many levels. At the end of the day, they've now been given the choice between (1) the Dems who have taken them for granted or (2) the Republicans who consider them subhuman and want them eradicated from the planet.
