that's what prompted the test when the guy connected it - my OH 'connected' his laptop to the modem & said it seemed to be much faster, so I tested it........
when the OH rang Movistar to say we were moving & we wanted to take our number with us, we were told we could, but it would take 6 weeks
or, for no penalty & no connection fee we could take a new contract for a lower monthly charge & have it connected 'by next Tuesday' - a no-brainer really
they rang me to gain access the very next day, but I hadn't picked up the keys yet, so I arranged for them to come on the Monday - & it would have been connected then, but for the fact that the urb caretaker is on hols & they had to get a key for the phone cupboard from the admin office, which took until Wednesday
maybe we are now contracted for 10 - will wait & see what the bill says

There are a number of options, the free one is to download Expat Shield, then download BBC iPlayer and ITV PLayer (save to Bookmarks for easy selection). You can watch programs retrospectively by downloading BBC iPlayer Desktop.
Then you come to the programs like TV Abroad and FilmOn, where you pay a monthly subscription of about £15. Using "TV Abroad", you can download the excellent "SeeSaw" prog. and watch loads of your "Old Favorites" for free!
I use "FilmOn" most of the time as it has the facillity to record programs.
Another option is to change from Telefonica to Europa Network. They have excellent online TV (British) and are constantly adding channels.
Of course you either use a laptop, or you have to have a TV with computer input.
If anyone tries this and has problems, I will be happy to help. Downloading "Ex Pat Shield" (and this is probably the best way to try TV online) your virus protection may well put up a warning! Don't worry about it, it's only picking up the adverts that makes it possible for the program to be free.
I should also say that at least a 6 Meg. connection is required for good results, unless you are downloading on BBC iPlayer Desktop.

So the quality is only really good enough to watch on a laptop or small tv then?
Not much use if you have a large HD TV!

The picture will be awful of a big TV. All these services are in standard definition or worse so the bigger the TV the worse the picture.
It's going to be a long time before you will get a decent picture online without a high speed connection and they are pretty rare in Spain and non existent outside the major cities.
I see it as just an option if you miss a program or forgot to record it.

You appear to be one of those people who love to put up objections to things, even though you haven't tried it!! (if you ain't tried it you can't knock it!).
When it comes down to it, lots of people with dishes suffer poor/no reception when it rains, some channels not available at all and quite a few lose picture at around 10 PM when the satellite goes out of range. I know which system I prefer, as I said "24/7".
I will add, to help people searching, that the program with the most channels is FilmOn, and reiterate 6 Megs is required.
Now I'm just going to watch the Formula 1 race.

Who needs a 46" TV anyway, are you playing at "one upmanship" ? Thinking about it, I suppose that pubs do.

I was thinking maybe you get more channels with your set top box.
I get, BBC1, BBC2, ITV, C4+1, Five, ITV2, E4, More4, CBS Drama, CITV, ITV3, ITV4 & Sky News.
Radio :- BBC WS, BBC R2, BBC R4
