Seeing how they behave in Iraq now compared to how they did under Saddam, I sometimes wonder if they need a tyrant in charge to keep them in order.

Since most of them havent ever lived in a democratic world, its hardly surprising. It takes time and should really evolve slowly for it to work

People in the middle east are deeply religious & believe that only Alah can make laws, therefore they will NEVER accept democracy. The world will be a far better & safer place when the west realise this.

Too true, Democracy is a rare and precious thing.

Mind you, when a subjugate people rise up and risk death to sample it, shouldn't you at least reach out your hand to save them?

I could agree with the recent posts too. If the strong belief in a God and his strict teaching is followed by the leaders, then what do the people care who or what the leaders are, their God is in charge of all of them.

Democracy is impossible, or there is no need for it, the people don’t decide anything, it’s all clearly set out in the Koran. The answer for everything is set in stone, there is no need for debate at any stage.

Could that be why the heads of Arab countries last as long as they do? When they have elections, they vote for God, and whoever is in charge comes out with a clear majority.

Western democracy is a joke. The idea of democracy is that people go with the majority vote. In 200 there were widespread fuel protests in the UK which 98% of the population supported. If Britain was a true democracy then fuel prices would've dropped. Instead the PM (Bliar) REFUSED to give in to the people. That makes Britain an 'elected dictatorship' because we are told what to do rather than having a say in it.

What percentage of British people agree with our troops being in Afghanistan? How many agree with the new action against Libya? Remember that this action is just the enforcement of a no fly zone. there was no mention in the UN resolution of destroying ground troops or targetting the presidents house.

A lot is said about democracy, but very few people understand it's true meaning.

There are a lot of definitions of democracy. You could say it's the freedom to not give a shit, not to bother to vote, because you know full well that there is precious little chance of waking up with someone like Gaddafi in charge with his minions calling round to rip out your fingernails.

Sorry about that, lets try again........

Ah just checked the link & it takes you to the correct page, but when you click to play it opens it in another window where you click to play again.
This will also open a further poker site that you simply close & the video then plays.

Can't get the frigging thing to run, all I get is a poker site.

As Churchill said, 'Democracy is a failure. It just fails better than anything else we have ever tried.'

Come on mate please exercise a few brain cells on this one

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3566545.stm
http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2...libyan-gas-oil

It is not just the US that wants access to Libya but also China, Russia and other major powers whose national oil companies are seeking new supplies.

The decline in North Sea reserves and climate change have fed into British determination to improve the country's energy security and exploit Libyan oil and gas. Marsa el-Brega would provide relatively clean fuel for UK power stations and help avoid dependence on piped gas from countries such as Russia which are deemed willing to use energy as a political weapon.

Don't quite see the link between that, but there you go. Lybia's oil and gas would hardly be likely to hand Gaddafi the keys to parliament.

Apparently the trigger happy Yanks have excelled themselves again by shooting up a bunch of locals in safe rebel held territory whilst picking up the crew from their downed aircraft.
Friendly fire I believe they call it.

Depends what you're saving them from and what the consequences might be for everyone
