You ask why I would not like to see the same harsh rules in the UK as in Spain, well it is because often the treatment of the pensioners and unemployed here is inhuman.
You cannot compare the hardship of a pensioner of very modest means in the UK with their counterpart in Spain.
It may be bad in the UK for the poorer pensioners, but here it is a matter of surviving on a pittance, some as little as 420 odd euros a month.
I have sympathy for the pensioners in both countires who are trying to keep body and soul together, and would not like to see the UK pensioners brought down to what a lot of Spanish pensioner have to live on.

and I have sympathy for genuine young folk who are are looking for a job, and it does affect us all whatever you think.
How can they get a mortgage working part time, and how can they get a mortgage with no work contract?
It's common sense,
We need these first time buyers working in proper employment that will satisfy building societies so that we can get everything moving again, and give their family some hope of a future
Whilste there are agencies taking on folk that can not refuse to take the work, companies will not give them contracts, therefore no mortgages will be dished out therefore lots suffer and many have no incentive to work.

Just a nod to those flying back to the UK soon. I flew into London this evening, and it may just be a coincidence, but the passport control process took ages. Or the customs guys are working to rule, having had their backsides kicked by the politicos.
Also, security checks in Barajas were a lot more thorough than normal - I think people are aware that there may be terrorist plots leading up to the election. So allow a bit more time if travelling by air.

A whistleblower who works at Heathrow Airport has told Sky News the system is at breaking point.
The immigration officer said it is "frightening" how many people slip through the net and exposed a culture of deceit where employees are bussed in when politicians visit to give the impression of more staff.
He told Sky News he feels security has been "compromised" because of pressure over queues.

We haven't found the queues too bad at Heathrow recently. Depends on the time, very busy early morning when all the transatlantic flights land. It is normal to wait in other countries too. Can be an hour in NY and Miami and it took us at least an hour in St. Lucia.

Yes, somehow I can't see the Americans relaxing security checks one iota in order to reduce queues, can you?
