Unlike under Labour they were not let in with govt approval, but by certain wayward officials who took the decision without ministerial approval and are about to be hauled over the coals for their gigantic cock-up.

but I still have to queue queue queue at Stansted, where the chip reading machines are usually put to bed for rest, the only time they have been switched on they rejected the first 6 people at least, probably the fault of the client - again

As opposed to the evil Labour barstewards, eh? The rest of the story will be that the tide of immigrants will continue just as badly under this government because no matter how they may love to play the race card, I don't actually think that they can or will do anything about it.

I can't find the list of immigrants by country and so on to the UK, but I remember one that showed that the biggest group entering were brits that had emigrated and were returning.

Actually, for the sake of accuracy can we just get this straight - the Home Secretary approved a pilot scheme this summer that border control checks (eg not scanning passports) would not be carried out for all British passport holders and those from EU countries, because of long immigration queues at airports. Are we to assume, therefore, that the wanted criminals who fled Britain (such as those featured in the Crimestoppers campaigns) or any undesirables who happen to hold EU country passports could come and go as they please? Had she not been embarrassed by this week's revelations that these measures were extended to non-EU citizens without her approval, we would probably never have heard about this.

I wouldn't predict the way things will go regarding immigration but I do believe, this one cock-up excepted, that they are making greater efforts than ever before, with even more restrictions on those officially allowed in to work even from the EU and also continuing to chase after the illegals.
I would hope it wouldn't become a party political football and that both major parties get together and increasingly back stricter immigration policies.

Don't worry Bil, when they have been here a while they will all get an amnesty to stay, and by then we will have enough money to afford their benefits anyway as this government is getting everybody back in work, remember:p

last time out they had big nobs from head office standing around watching and commenting to flunkies. Took everyones mind off the job and so we went through slower.

If they are going to ask nearly everyone now to take their shoes off and almost undress then we should have a place on the other side to get dressed again, sit down to put shoes back on etc

customer service ? nope !

You can't have severe government cuts without severe pain for the population.

Without an aircraft carrier, we had to fly off French and American carriers when we helped to bomb Libya.

Cutting the NHS staff means longer waiting times and bits and bobs left inside patients after operations.

Cutting police numbers means you can forget dialling 999, your call will be re-rooted to India, or Bradford, and you might get a PC in a turban a month later.

And if they cut the Border patrols even more, you'll need a sleeping bag to get through Stanstead.
