I remember being in Malaga airport and it was disgusting with the smoke, now it is smoke free. So how can you say it hasn´t worked. I personally think Spain has got it about right so far. What I do hate is to see parents smoking above their children´s heads.

I remember the first 'working day' after the ban came into force

I saw the local pharmacist smoking outside his shop!!

I asked him if he would stop smoking now - he said probably because he couldn't afford the time to keep going outside

he's still smoking outside to this day:lol:

Love it. I was in the local social security office last week and it was completely smoke free. If I had gone in a few years ago it was have been horrendous. So for me it is a big step forward. However as I said I don´t mind the little bars having smoking because I would know not to go into them.
Our local taperia allows smoking and normally I would stay away but the food is so fantastic and cheap, I suffer for my stomach.

Re: SMOKING BAN EXTENSION

Even if smokers find it hard to give up, maybe the ban will help them cut down, i have 1 friend that does smoke, and we have noticed she pops outside less often, she was here to lunch on Sunday, and we all sat outside for 3hrs (bliss) as we did get weak sunshine..she never had a ciggie, normally in that time time she would have had at least 6..her words " I am just trying to see how long i can go without one"..she cannot be on her own in these thoughts surely.. Btw she went 4.20mins..

I will say, here in Dartmoor you can tell the smokers, they are the ones covered in midge bites!

You've hit the nail on the head !!!
It has been a contributary factor in the death of many a UK pub.

And to repeat a link on the first page of this thread....... http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereport..._are_evol.html

A pretty well sourced article which tries to illustrate that pubs aren't necessarilly dying a death. And again I point you to the stat that says just 11% of currrent smokers sasy that they use pubs less now since the ban.

Its the summer holidays, the chance of getting within 100 mtrs of Haytor is slim to buggery!

In Plymouth there have been many old, very established pubs which have closed.

This appeared to coincide with the introduction of the smoking ban.

The only pubs which seem to be doing OK are the ones which offer cheap all day meals.

I cant pass real judgement because Im not an expert but I dont think stats can really be relied upon.
